nice barber dime today

Nice!

I'm still wondering what I have to learn to pull a Barber. (Let alone a seated.)

That and some Positive Thinking when hunting Old Sites. You never know when a Barber or Seated will jump out at ya. Hope to see you post one or the other real soon. Good Luck and HH.:detecting:

Not sure how much of it's experience/what I have yet to learn, finding the right location(s), etc. I'm starting to find some more promising spots that dont' seem quite as cleaned out, so hopefully soon.

Research New Old Sites that you have never detected before. You can also talk to the Old Timer's in your area to find out where Old Ball Diamonds were, Picnic Grounds, where the Circus set up at, things like that. You could be surprised what could be hidden in your own Town, all it takes is a few minutes to chat with someone that has spent there entire life in the area. Then the possibilities could be endless. You could also get into some Private Yards also by chatting with people. Only thing they can do is tell you No or Yes, and if Yes, most of the time your in Virgin Territory. Good Luck and HH.

that is just what i do black x . 90 % of my finds are right here in my little town , my wifes aunt is 93 , i talk to her , the town historian, gives me alot of info, talk to local auctioneers and realetors , i get some of my old houses ,from a friend that is a auctioneer and a realetor , pick there brains.

I think that, other than getting access to private land (and I'm not that comfortable chatting up people to get access), I need to get out of my town to find better spots. The interesting places I'm finding lately are in less populated towns--this town is almost all houses now--a few towns further out from the metro area. After hitting every open space I can find in this town (and some surrounding towns) over the past 2+ years (first with Tesoro, then with Sov, now with SE), I'm coming to the conclusion that the town was swept fairly clean of silver to a certain depth by earlier detectors and/or the soil has been turned or fill dirt added. (For instance, I found a mid-70s Pepsi can near the town hall down about 10" once.) I find wheats back into the teens with some regularity, occasional Mercs and Rosies, but anything older or larger seems to elude me for the most part. That I'm getting the old wheats but but not much silver is what makes me think a lot of the spots have been cherry picked of silver by earlier-generation detectors. I still think I need to learn a lot more though since I've only found 3 (4?) Indians by now and that leads me to believe that I'm not getting enough depth.

That and yet more research. (I keep thinking I've found something new people might not have found before and then when I detect those spots don't have any better luck there either.)

I do wonder about you folks in the midwest though--seems like most of the seateds and barbers I see posted are from the MW. Not quite sure what that means (if I'm correct and it has any significance).

Nice find!
