Next Tesoro

I bought a Lobo st for the gold fields near my home and was a bit impressed with using it also in the parks. I bought a 5 3/4 coil for it but have not used it much.
My question is this. Is there another Tesoro machine that would compliment the Lobo, or would I be buying redundency? I was thinking about buying a 11 x 8 coil for the Lobo, ($135), then thought maybe just buy another delta machine with that coil such as the Vaquero or Tejon. Then I could mix and match depending on the situation. The Tejon has the same frequency as the Lobo, so would I be gaining anything besides the second discriminator for the $600? I hear that the Tejon is deep, but so is the Lobo with a larger coil. Does the Vaquero do anything better than the Lobo? Would moving to an Epsilon machine like the Outlaw do anything beneficial? I have not seen a comparison between the Delta and Epsilon machines.
I have a few wiz bang machines already, (V3i, F-75, F-19), so I am not so much interested in the Deleon or Cortez unless there is something about their features that is significant. Ground balancing is a feature that I will want.

If I already had the lobo then I would defiantly get the Vaquero. It is lite, extremely fun to use and almost as deep as the tejon. I have used both and to me it deemed the vaquero was better on coin shaped objects. I have found a lot more coins with my vaquero, eldorado, and bandido 2 micromax then I ever did with the tejon. Tejon is very good on lead bullets though so if I lived back east hunting for 3 ringers then I probably would have kept the tejon.

Yes indeed that's what Tesoro needs the next ...........................Tesoro. A new Tesoro a different Tesoro not just a rehash or slightly tweaked...."previous machine". Cazador just in time for spring......................... 2020???? LOL LOL

When I had my Tejon I found it to be very good on coins....however, since you already have the Lobo, you may not gain much there. For manual ground balance Tesoros, that leaves the Cortez, Vaquero or Outlaw. As you have an F75 and a V3i, the Cortez may not add much to your lineup. As Welgund said, the Vaquero (and the Outlaw) are very light machines. I dont presently have either, but have an Eldorado (Umax type) and a Cibola (fixed ground balance on the Cibola). These machines function very well, have good distinct audio and discrimination is very good, and could be compared to some degree to the Outlaw and the Vaquero. A variety of coil size and type is available for both the Outlaw and the Vaquero. I have had my Eldorado for 13 years, and although I have other, more recent, detectors from other manufacturers, I still use and enjoy using the Eldorado and several other Tesoros. If you want a good machine with manual ground balance and without visual ID, either the Outlaw or the Vaquero would fit the bill. If you check them out you will see that they have differing operating frequencies, so your preference may be determined by this. Good luck, the pinpointing accuracy using a concentric coil is another feature of my Tesoros that I enjoy.

Hey Danny, Running an LST myself. I like the 10X12 coil but not great at pin pointing, covers a lot of ground quickly. No experience with the 11X8. The 8X9 is great and it pin points good. I have the 5 3/4 but have not put it to much use yet. The stock coil is a good compromise in gold territory, used it in AK and it was my go to coil. Presently trying the LST out on the beaches. Drop me a line, osbod007at hotmaildotcom Don

I bought the 11x8 for the lobo. I watched test reports from Scannerguy1968 on you tube. In his test garden the Lobo did better than the Vaquero. On the Lobo, I have to turn the discriminator up all the way in a park to try to avoid tabs, so I also lose nickles. Maybe if I spend more time with it I could mark the discriminator knob for nickles and use it better. If not, it may just be my relic / gold nugget machine from this point on.

The Tejon is about the same frequency as the Lobo, and the Lobo is more sensitive to small stuff I think, So I don't know I would benefit from getting that.
I want to be able to ground balance, so that leaves out a few more machines. I don't see anything in the outlaw or Cortes that makes them out of the ordinary machines. If I seen one used cheap enough I might get one, but from what I see people want a lot for a used Tesoro that has no warranty. The sellers are under the impression that the machine has a lifetime warranty and price the units high. Quite often there adds even say so. That warranty is only good for the original purchaser.

I was thinking that I got better silver results with the lower frequency machines that I have like my Fischer CZ-7a Pro. I have been wondering how White's DFX would compare, so I bought one on Ebay at a good price. I watched all the Youtube instructional videos about it. It seems easier to use than the V3i, (not as many settings). Once I get better with the DFX, maybe the V3I won't be as complicated. Maybe one day Tesoro will come out with something new. Maybe they are so far behind that they can't build anything new without infringing on another company's patent.

Thanks to all who responded to my thread. I did appreaciate all of your input. In the end I decided that $370 for a used Vaquero was not as good a value as $350 for a multifrequency DFX.
The Lobo is still a keeper, so you may see me back in this room again.

Tejon and Lobo share coils so that a huge benefit.
And the tejon should make a deeper gold detector in ground it can handle.
The allmetal is slow to respond though.
