Next Detector?

I have an X-terra 70 that I've gotten pretty good with, but if anything ever happens to it I'm probably SOL. I had the warranty plan on it, but it has expired and even if I send it back to get it repaired, it probably won't come back as good as it was. I compared it a 705, when they came out and it beat the 705 by a couple inches.

My needs are for a detector that has auto ground balancing (manual would be good too) for sure as I hunt old homesites in open fields where the ground balance can change drastically over just a couple feet. Also, need really good separation in nails and has an option to use a large DD coil. I've found I get the best depth with a low frequency too.

Was thinking that the ML Safari might be a good choice as I don't need all the bells and whistles of the E-trac. Was wondering how balanced the Safari feels though? It's listed as being about 3.5 lbs, and if that's true would be fine, since I used to swing an MXT and that beast only got unwieldy when I tried to use anything larger than the stock coil.

Since I've listed my criteria, would appreciate feedback from people that have found a good detector for these purposes. TIA.

Nice coil selections.Multi frequency etc..all your asking for... Also has auto GB and tracking so it always stays pretty much perfectly GB'd

ML Safari is an excellent all around machine, I've been using one for close to 2 yrs & love it, I'll never get rid of it. It works great in the dirt or on the beach, in the dry or wet sand.
Also a great addition is a NEL coil, I've been using the NEL Sharpshooter on it & it works great, I can MD right under the high power lines with no EMI trouble.
good luck

Ive never used the safari but have an etrac and have had explorers and they all are not as light as the xterras or as balanced.
I would say if a mxt was a bit much for you then a safari would be also.

The only reason the MXT became an arm wrencher was because I wasn't happy with the depth and kept putting larger coils on it that pushed the overall weight to 5lbs. I'm going to try and get up to a dealer in Tenn in next couple of weeks to personally handle a Safari and see what I think. Thanks for your input.

The CTX is much better balanced than Etrac or Safari. May be worth considering as many are ahowing up on the used market and the bell and you do not have to use the whistles to use the machine. It is a great machine for weeding out goodies from trash.

You might also want to take a look at the Fisher F75se with boost and cache modes.....one of the lightest detectors out there, perfectly balanced and it even has a PF (plowed field mode) plus it has a variety of coils to choose from.

The F75 really is a great detector. Probably the deepest and best seperating single freq detector Ive ever used. If it worked better on wet salt sand I would still have one. And your right about the weight/balance, its as good as it gets.
