NewTesoro Vaquero --- really?

Hungarian

New member
Well, my new Tesoro Vaquero arrived today from a dealer. I opened the box and started to put the detector together. I have owned several different tesoros at one time or another (some new and some used) a cortes, vaquero, deleon, conquistidor and my favorite, an eldorado.
I looked at the control box and noticed something was out of whack, then I figure it out and the front panel was tightened down without being seated properly, so there is a gap at the bottom and the top is not seated but on the edge of the control housing. No big deal...I can loosen the screws and seat it later. So anyway I get the detector together, put in a new battery and turn on the detector. Well I am happy to say (not really), it can detect a quarter at 5 inches in all metal and three inches in discrimination and the tone is smeared..and it even cuts out. And yes, I have several other tesoros so I set it up right for an air test. I even measured my battery voltage and the battery is good. Shipping box had zero damage.

So anyway I am not sure whether to call the dealer or tesoro and figure out what to do. What sucks is I will have to pay shipping for something that never should have left the factory.

And I had a hunt scheduled for Saturday with the detector club (which doesn't meaet often) and a hunt Sunday morning with my friend.

Anyway sorry to vent guys, I guess I am turning into an old grumpy man early.

Call Tesoro and explain the way the machine arrived, they will probably pay for the shipping since it was obviously a fault during production. I'm not sure what that says about there Q.A. though.

I would call the dealer he might exchange for a new one,Best of Luck Hank.

If you bought it from a dealer there should not be a problem exchanging machines. But if you called the factory and explained your situation about this weekend they may send one right out with a shipping label for the one you have now. QA would probably have an opening about Monday.

The gb knob is turned too far one direction. Adjust it so it is in the middle of it's range and try the test again.

I called Tesoro and they said to contact the dealer, but said if the dealer didn't help they would figure something out. I called my dealer and he is sending out a new unit and including a label for me to return the defective one I have. I am very happy with the outcome and the dealer. He will be getting all of my future business.

Thumbs up, glad it worked out smooth for ya:yo:!

Glad you got everything straightened out and are getting a proper Vaquero, hope you do well with it. I have the Cibola and have loved it.

It's rare to hear about a bad Tesoro out of the box, but even the best can have a problem I guess. You are gonna love the Vaquero, it's a great detector........HH
