Those are replacement knobs from Radio Shack or some other electronics store, because the factory knobs often break.

Well, I've heard that they either break or come off. Truth is that mine are in perfect shape but I took them off as a pre-emptive strike when the machine was still brand new and got the ones from Radio Shack anyway. If anybody cares, here's the exact knob:
