Newest rental permission hunt cut short by guy running from cops! :ninja:

Went out to the newest rental house permission last night which is conveniently located exactly behind my house - all I had to do was step over the low fence and turn on and go...

I've wanted to hunt this house for a long time but if there are tenants inside I simply won't do it. Even with the landlord's express permission, I feel funny poking around someone's yard if they don't know who I am or why I'm there...anyway, the house finally got vacant and I gave Marty a call and got the green light.

I started in the backyard near the driveway and initially dug a couple deeper bottlecaps and pulltabs. Found the requisite cut pieces of siding which showed up solidly at "50" and "52" in 4 kHz - I keep hoping for gold but so far zip on the Au...and world's highest score on Al...LOL! About 30 minutes later I start getting better signals - a "67" turned out to be a 1945 Wheat (yay! On the right track!) followed by a shallow "71" which was a 1952 Wheat. Started swinging towards the back door and got a surface bottlecap, rescanned the area and got a repeatable faint "67-69", which was a 1941 Wheat at 6-7" down. So things were going in the direction of silver until I heard a bunch of commotion not 60 feet from where I stood. I saw a figure jump up and grab a low hanging branch and pull himself higher over the fence. He landed in the same yard I was in, and I immediately dropped the Deus and pinpointer and had the Lesche ready to go to work but still concealed. Keep in mind this is 10:00 at night and there were no lights on - only the dim glow of urban light pollution helped me make out that this was a person who just landed into my rental permission. I snatched the WS5s off my head - he turned and saw me as the headphones came off, but I had my hand on the Lesche handle which was still concealed.

It was then that I saw police spotlights shining here and there, along with the low grumble of the 3.5liter Dodge Charger motors accelerating and looking for the suspect. It all came together in my mind in about half a second - the cops were chasing this guy on foot! At that moment I took a step towards this guy - not saying a word - since he more than likely didn't figure on me being in that yard when he hopped the fence. The only thing visible on me was the backlit Deus control box I wear on my left arm for easy access - and maybe my pasty white legs  Only thing I could see on him was a pair of white socks - nothing else.

"Uh oh!" he muttered
"Wrong yard buddy...keep it moving!" I said calmly

Without a word he took off towards the other side of the yard and leapt over a 6-foot privacy fence into the next yard, I think he miscalculated because I heard a bunch of crashing noises as he jumped into the next yard. Idiot. As long as he was running away from the rental permission AND my house then things would go well for him (until the cops found him lol), and I could continue hunting.

So he went about his business of evading arrest while I got another signal not 12 inches from the deeper Wheat. This one was a "76-78" which is a good silver dime indication, but not always. I had no sooner got everything back to "hunt mode" and was ready to pull out the pinpointer to find the target when I saw an LED light come my way. A few officers were on foot as well as in their cars, and one in particular shone his light on me and asked me to stand up. Again, I dropped the Deus and pinpointer and took off the phones.

"He went that way!" I said, pointing to the right

I proceeded to tell the officers what happened and gave them the escape direction, and had to explain what I was doing in a vacant backyard at 10:00pm. They were cool with it, but they suggested I go home and "give the coins a rest" for the night. I was a little disappointed, since I was about to possibly dig some silver, but the yard nor the coins were going anywhere in the span of 24-48 hours, so no big loss.

This is the most excitement I've had in a while when treasure hunting and not something I'd like to do again. The police caught up with the guy about 90 minutes later - he was 4 houses down, penned in an outdoor storage building with nowehere to go without being seen. Good riddance!!! Going back tonight looking for more goodies!

CZ get back to that yard and the "Crash" yard, that guy might have been dropping $20 gold coins he just stole from old man Johnson' safe!!!

LOL

Jim
