Newcomer But Determined & Jazzed!

Hi everyone.

I've wanted to get into this since I was a kid. I am just shy of 40 and finally did it.

Got a Garrett 1350 and am on Day Two of my adventures. Nothing to write home about yet. But I am determined!

I am blessed to live in the Gold Country of California and am looking forward to all the places to hunt.

My best friend and I are ghost hunters and it was his idea to try our hand at this--and the two hobbies can combine rather nicely! Especially older or abandoned locations.

Question: I am 2 hours from the ocean, so I am looking forward to trying my hand at beach combing.

Can the Garrett 1350 go in shallow water?

I am already looking at a second unit...what recommendations would you folks make? Should I get one better at detecting GOLD since I am in the Motherlode of California? I'm on a budget, so I can't get too crazy or fancy. But not sure if it's best to get another unit or just other coils, hand held pin pointers. etc.?

Thanks for any tips!

I love this forum. My best friend and ghost hunting co-lead investigator has gotten me hooked. I am in this forever!

Cheers and Happy New Year!

Spencer

I Live in Los Banos Ca wear are you from???? $599.00 for the Garrett AT-Pro a all around Detector and if you go to the classifieds it will be cheaper???? Mickfin

The only thing that can go in the water is the coil. Get the control box wet and your tector is toast. If you plan on hunting for gold you got the wrong machine. They have special detectors to hunt for gold with. The Garrett Scorpion ( very reasonably priced ) and Infinium are two good ones. The 1350 will find a big nugget but there ain't too many of those laying around. I would go for the Scorpion if you plan on a second machine. It's also great for relics, coins, and jewelry. Welcome to the hobby and to the best forum on the net. Good luck.

Mickfin, I'm in Sacramento. Grew up in San Francisco. Been a Californian all my life. =)

Bill, thanks for the suggestions! I really do appreciate it. Learning a lot as I go, bit by bit with every hunt!

Take care!

Cheers,

Spencer

I'll post a pic of a big nugget found on the banks of the Yuba River with a Garrett Infinium by a lady attorney turned nuggetshooter. She has since found many more. All those rivers in that area are good spots, the Feather, The Yuba, The American, etc My old man helped build the big dam on the Feather..

That 1350 is a great machine. It should serve you well. Although not designed for gold, if you get a sniper coil for it, it will pick up some of the tinier nuggets. Here are my results from one whole year of hunting with mine.....
