Newby Scuba Diver Question

DiveDetector

New member
Hey all!

I am a New Jersey scuba diver (I dive every 2 weeks, all year long for the last few years) and I have just recently decided to jump into this hobby.

I dont have a metal detector yet. I am currently in research mode. I dont know much about shopping for equipment so I am appealing to you fine people.

What metal detectors should I be looking for?

I plan on diving in both salt water and fresh water with my detector (No deeper than 120 feet).
I plan on using it on land too.
I am interested in coins, jewelry and relics.
I am budget conscious. I have done well on classifieds in buying my scuba gear and would love to do the same for metal detecting.
Would love to spend less than $800 for a nice quality device.

Not sure what other considerations I should have. Again, any professional guidance or ideas would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Bryan

Minelab excal would be best bet in my opinion, But getting a high quality one for $800 might be the challenge. .. New with warranty would be the way to go that way your covered if it leaks... for some reason the old ones would get hairline cracks in the plastic which usually would be no issue wading but 120ft deep might bring the good times to a screeching halt... the excal is great in saltwater and freshwater and ok on land although not many land hunt with them ... google underwater metal detecting videos.... a large percentage are using excals... good luck...

Go to the "Beach and Water / Scuba Dive Detecting Forum" and post your question.
The only way to hopefully meet your price expectations--and it will not be easy, is Finds Classified Forum.
But I would add the CZ 20/21 to the Ecxalibur-and a PI like Aquapulse and used by professional salvors might be handy (Kellyco has them.)
If your budget is constrained a Detectorpro unit or a Fisher Aquanaut are less expensive VLF; & a PI, the Garrett Sea Hunter Mark II Metal Detector might start you off .
