Newby queston about notching on F2

With the F2 ,or other detectors when I notch or discriminate out iron or foil do I lose depth? Just wandering I've hunted my yard hard found several wheats deep and clad but was wandering if discriminating out iron I could be losing depth and explain why Im not finding any Silver  thanks in advance for any help.

Used F2's quite a bit, never noticed any major loss in depth with discing, probly why your'e not finding any silver is there's none there, if it was there you should find it, or hear it anyway.

Thank you , I found over 150 coins in my yard only one being silver, oldest was a 1910 was just trying to see if I was doing something wrong:confused: thanks again

Taking out iron shouldn't change depth. There is some good stuff that falls in tabs. Sometimes leave tabs in and decide to dig the signal.

Sometimes there is no coins to dig at any setting.

Have fun.

I found a Barber Dime @ 8" with my F2 with Iron Disc'd out. It was the day after a good rain so that probably gave me a little extra depth. But I would say there's probably no Silver. I MD'd a spot where I pulled 11 wheats & not one single Silver coin to be found.

I air tested the F2 with different coins some time ago with iron notched out/in and found absolutely no difference, and assume it would be the same with coins in the ground.

Only two detectors I know of where depth is not lost is a CZ and a Wilson R&C when you disc. high. In your case low disc. should not cause any significant loss in depth.
Careful on the foil area as thats where approx.1 /3 of the gold rings come in. Sort of darned if you do and darned if you don't....
Over the years used a lot of different models and may be other units with little or no loss in depth with high disc. that I haven't used...
Indeed silver is getting harder to find every year so time to scout out some new territory...

Thanks for all the replys, just trying to learn my machine the best I can. Another question Could the high squeaks i get but am unable to consistently reproduce be silver? most of my time has been spent in my own yard maybe there isn't any silver here. :(
Thanks again

There's a small possibility if it's right on the edge of your F2's maximum depth, but I doubt it. According to the manual the F2 is the most sensitive while in pinpoint mode. Run sensitivity as high as you can and try to pinpoint and dig it!

What I've usually found those to be with my F2 are iron targets when I've got iron disc'd out (to test, notch iron back in and see if you get an iron tone over the area).

Also I've gotten some falsing when the ground is pretty saturated from rain. Drove me crazy until I turned the sensitivity down a notch. :)

Chances are that your yard might not have silver, but you're getting some great practice for when you go to other places that do!

Thanks again for all the replys, Read an article about iron masking other signals when it was discriminated out, left the iron on and put the 4" sniper coil on and found Silver a 61 dime, also found a sterling ring. :super: You guys here all share a lot of great information thanks again

in theory, you'll lose a little depth if you notch out iron but it won't be enough to worry about. and yes, the F2 LOVES moist dirt. i get a lot more depth and cleaner signals after a rain.
