I was surfing around for Minelab products this morning and hit upon a link to this forum. Feels like a good find for sure. I have only used my Excalibur on the beach three times (due to the weight and imbalance). After a few minutes of reading here, I got the word on Mark's straight shaft mod. Looked it up on eBay and bought one immediately. Looks to me like Mark has an engineering background or is blessed with a lot of common sense.

There are some very inventive people here.

You will see quite a few mods, particularly on the Sov.

Minelab makes some very good machines, but the weight and balance issues have always been a problem.

Your new rod will no doubt make your hunting much more enjoyable.

A lot of the guys over on the beach forum use all kinds of mods to help with their Xcals. Some of them look pretty odd, but they work.

Good luck.

to the hobby and this site. Most if not all that I have learned about the minelabs came from experienced users from this site. They know what their talking about and can answer any question that you may have.HH

Thanks Marc. Looks like you guys know your gear. I'm really happy to have found a Minelab users group. (M.U.G.?)

Thanks Art. My first underwater finds were a small handful of change, some pull tabs and a flooded Timex. You might think I was disappointed.
Heck, no. I was thrilled to find I could make the darn thing work!

Good luck with your Minelab. I am sure you'll love it.
I am dreaming of getting an Excalibur also, but that dream will have to wait till next year.
Good luck and God bless,
MM

HI Iron Mike, yes i have one of Marks Shafts also, it does a good Job, i've known him for some time, and he got the idea from the one i had, but he extened it longer and moved it back to the top of the shaft, what a differance it makes. hope you enjoy your excal, i've had one for some time, and they will grow on ya, HH Harold in Fla.

Absolutely, Harold. I mounted the straight shaft on mine Monday and I just 'trimmed' it out and tried it this morning on a bike path near my place. Works great!
