Hi newbie here. My friend suggested I get a whites beachhunter 300. I live near the shore and want to get in the water. i also want to search my local parks, soccer fields etc. Is this an easy machine to use? Any suggestions thoughts? Thanks

Welcome youdig? I had the BHID 300 for a short time but it didn't work very well on my beaches in Central/Northern Ca. but it is a fairly straightforward machine . . .hopefully you got the owners manual. Where are you hunting ? It's a good water machine for low-mineralization beaches. As far as hunting in the dirt at parks, fields etc. I would recommend a better suited land machine. You could cut your teeth with the BHID 300 and see how much you like hunting the dirt but you'll soon want the added benefits of a VDI (numbers) or TID (tones) to help sort through all the stuff you never realized was under the ground (and most of it isn't "treasure"). IMHO you would probably be very satisfied with an M6 or MXT both also from Whites. Good luck with your new addiction . . .

I'm on the south shore of long island so it's mostly sandy beaches. However I am also interested in the freshwater streams nearby and possibly the north shore which is rocky. I don't know about the mineral content. I'm just looking for something easy to use that will give me the best possible chances of finding lost jewelry at the beaches and maybe some coins in the local school yards. Thanks for your help I will research the two you mention.

Try posting some questions about using the BHID 300 in your area, in the Beach/Water hunting forum . . someone from that area may be able to give you some good advice.
