Newbie!

Hello all, I am just beginning here in the Southern Tier of NY. Have had the Ace 250 for over a year but was building an addition with my husband, since our retirement a year ago, which took all of our time and therefore have not really used the detector for actual searching. My husband bought it when he lost his keys in some really deep snow somewhere on our property. I found the keys right away but that was about the extent of my detecting, although I have had an interest for many years and always begged for a detector.

I have spent hours reading what everyone is writing as far as tips and experiences. Any info I could find. I have a LOT of book on the subject too so I feel confident about what I am doing (until I get outside and turn the machine on). But time and practice, right?

OK, now that I have told you my life story I just want to say thanks so much for all the input on this forum that really has given me so much valuable information.

Swing and Dig.....after about 100 hrs then swing and dig some more. Once you master the machine and know what its telling you then you will have a million questions. The answer will be "swing and dig"

Welcome to the forum. I don't get to use my detector as much as I would like due to health problems. But, every time I turn it on I learn something new. All these experienced users on this forum are extremely helpful and all around good people. I have learned some stuff from my books also, but like they said: swing and dig and add a small amount of patience and the world is your oyster. The biggest boost I have got from metal detecting is learning about the history just of the state I live in and several counties I have lived in previously. Metal detecting leads to a lot of interesting stuff.

I always hated history, but now find myself fascinated by local history and can't seen to get enough of it. But guess I will need to learn a lot of that to decide where to hunt productively.
