Newbie with a Lone Star, hit gold on day 1 !

Yep, just got a Lone Star model as an 'early' Christmas present. Yesterday was my first time out with it and I had a blast. Found 5 pennies, two nickles, three dimes and two quarters, 10 pull tabs, foil and..... a gold ring! Not a big ring by anyone's standards, but marked 585 on the inside. :bouncy:
Don't know how to post a photo with a "URL" yet, but when I do I'll post one.
Needless to say I am seriously infected with the detector bug! Today I hit it for a couple of hours and brought in another 3 pennies and two quarters, but no rings this time. Still, it's like fishing to me, good to go anytime and if I catch something, well that's just gravy!
I've been very pleased with the little Lone Star detector. Would like to find out some way to make it balance better on my arm. It has slots for a some kind of strap, but it didn't come with one. Not sure if that would make it better or not, but I am looking for something that will work as a strap. Any ideas?

Good job on the gold ring! I've been using the lone star for 2.5 years now, and, though I do only get out on the weekends, gold has eluded me! One of these times, it will happen...

I have not had to deal with an arm strap, since my detector was manufactured before Bounty Hunter started putting slots on the detector arm cups. Most of the arm straps I see for sale online are for Fisher detectors (made by same company as Bounty Hunter). You might want to look into one of those, or email the people at Bounty Hunter and see what they offer.

Have fun with your Lone Star; it is a great little machine once you learn it!

TXAu congratulations on the new metal detector and the finds so far.Welcome to our wonderful hobby and keep up the good work...Markmac

A gold ring is a nice find congrats !!
Now you have the fever for digging bad:thumbup::laugh:

Yes sir I do have the fever! The last two days of swinging have not been nearly as eventful. I guess I am just paying my dues and continuing my education!:|
I have attached a picture of the ring I found on my first outing. Still cant' believe it! I have dug at least 20 pull tabs the last two days. But if I that's what it takes to get a gold ring....then so be it!

I have at least been able to figure out what a long trash signal looks like. Has saved me from digging up a copper water line, scrap wiring, etc. I can't believe how much junk I have found in the past few days. The old screw top to a mason jar was the worst! It registered as silver all the way. I should have known it was junk though. The target zone was huge.

Hey that mason jar lid could have been attached to a jar full of silver dollars! Someone did a test with a jar full of coins and gave an iron signal. Makes ya wonder.

Now that is something I never thought about....but you are right! I have found some mason jars in the woods (while geocaching) that had some goodies in them. Never thought about it, but I bet at the time they were probably one of the more secure containers. They would hold out moisture as long as the seal was good. Hmmmm...may have to go back and swing a few more times at that site. I've already got the location and the soil is easy digging now. Thanks for the tip!
