Newbie wanting to get his hands dirty.

Hello from Missouri. Well I didnt see a newbie forum, so, I'll just start right here. After many years of drag racing I'm ready to do something different (cheaper). Been toying with the idea of detecting for years, but I'm finally ready to dig and I have a few questions. First, my choice for a detector is either the Garrett ACE 250 or 350, hadnt made up my mind yet, but I walked into a pawn shop today and there on the wall was a 350 with gadget bag of extras, all which looks like it was barely used, and after talking with them a bit I had them down to $200 for the whole outfit. The bag contained the digging tool with magnet on end of wooden handle, 2 diff small shovels, 2 sets of headphones and some other small stuff, but no manuals or dvd's. Unit seemed to work fine, but I would value the opinion of folks who know this equipment better than me. Does this sound like a good deal? Would you buy at that price without the manuals and such? Would you buy from a pawn shop at all? Any advice you can give would be great. Really looking forward to diggin and talking with you folks. My interests lie in anything old, valuable or not, I've just got an interest in our past.
Thanks all,
Ken.

First welcome, you got a great deal on the 350 with all the goodies I say you did, if you have questions about it you can ask them here and go on youtube and enter ace350 and watch some videos on it, post some of your finds here at will!

[size=large]you can also go to the Garrett web site and see and i think download the manuals. any vid made by garrett will be there and on the you tube. welcome to the forums.

Thanks guys, it'll be a bit before I can actually do it as I am recovering from rotator cuff surgery, but the heart is willing. Thanks for the welcome, I'm sure I'll be asking questions. The very first place I want to check is my yard. Its been here since '65 so theres no telling what might be right outside my door. :detecting: Thanks again, think I might need to go buy that thing.

Hello Dirt slinger, and welcome. There are alot of good people on these forums and lots and lots of knowledge floating around. Best of luck to you and hope you can start hunting soon.
