Newbie to Detecting

CraigR

New member
Hi,

I'm a complete newbie to detecting and found the attached with my kids in North Yorkshire (nr Wetherby).

To my untrained eye, the cylindrical patterns look like it may have come possibly from a brooch (or similar). There is evidence of Roman, Viking and Anglo Saxon in the general area.

Any help greatly appreciated, as it would certainly help history come alive for my kids.

Thanks

Ok whta are the dimensions of this thing. Place a known sizer object in with item.

Is this item corroded or just dirty? Wash it in clean water.

Weight? May indicate metal type.

Appears a leather belt or halter type piece...
