Newbie thinkin bout a Safari?

Hey guys new to this forum and have been researching the crap out of the Safari. I hunt alot of parks and old home sites. Do you guys think the Safari would do me better than my Garrett 1350, and would it be worth the extra money to get the se or e-trac? I think my Garrett is missin the deep stuff. Thanks for any info. Josh

Can't comment on the depth of the Garret but the Safari is definetly deep. I am still learning to listen to the Safari myself. Very impressed so far.

Hi Josh,

I'm new to this site too and have just purchased a Safari which should arrive in less than a week from now. While not new to metal detecting by any means I am new to the Minelab line of coin detectors. After reading up on the Safari and comments from another metal detecting site, I chose the Safari because (1) being the entry level FBS machine it is allegedly easier to learn than the SE or E-Trac; (2) the depth that this detector can achieve should be comparable to the aforementioned detectors; and (3) it fit my price range. I could have opted for a used SE and saved about a hundred bucks, but again, I'm looking for a shorter learning curve than the SE affords. I can't comment on the model of Garrett you mentioned, as I've always been a Tesoro man myself, but I believe that if you're looking for a deep seeking detector but don't wish to shell out that much more cash for a new SE or E-Trac, the Safari seems like a logical choice. At least it did for me.

Now all I have to do is get out and learn how to use it. :detecting:

Thanks for the replys guys. After looking at the screen of the SE and E-Trac the screens do look a little complicated, and there seems to be many more adjustments than the Safari has.
