Newbie... sorry

I have an outdated Bounty Hunter pioneer EX... But it works! (Don't laugh!!!) I'm finally getting the "hang" of not digging up crap, and pinpointing the targets better. I used to dig holes with a spade shovel! And still find nothing!!! He, he, he.
So yesterday I found what looks like an old catch that would be on, like a small box lid, (the box long gone.) It has a raised wagon wheel design on it, and it's about 1" square, with a small tab sticking out of one edge. Where would I go to try to identify not only this, but other curious items I find? Anyone?

Nice to be here, and this is cool stuff. Congrats on that silver ring. That is one unique little bugger!

Tom

Greetings, Tom!
NEVER be sorry for being a newbie, I know I'm not.
Go to the Whatzit Forum located by the pulldown on the box above.
If you can upload a photo of your find, great, but, if not, just describe it well.
Good find, by the way.
Blessings,
Kenn

Had a good day yesterday, but my big question is... What the heck is that? I don't know, a lid catch for a long disolved small box? A belt buckle? Don't know, but it was fun finding it!

Tom

PS what does it mean by "add signature?"

Be careful. It could be an alien probe. You may change into an alien and try to take over the Earth! :yikes:

Sorry. Couldn't help myself. :nerd:
I am a big Sci-fi fan. And I am fascinated on what may be beyond our speck of sand in this universe.
I should have been born in the 22nd century instead of the 20th. Then I could go to other planets with my metal detector. GEEZ? Who knows what I would find. :starwars:

Anyway. The picture is kinda blurry. To me it looks like a ships steering wheel on a rock.
Can you get a sharper picture of it?

Very cool find however.

Oh. The "add my signature to this message" means the signature you add in your profile. Like mine below. Go into the "control center" at the top of the forum page and edit your profile. :super:

Thanks a lot. It's just a wheel, no rock. It was obviously a catch of some sort. I thought I'd "ask the experts." Ummmm...
Where are they?
He, he, he.
I had to go get batteries for the camera, (surprised I got ANY pics at all.) so here's a couple more! Ooops. Wait a minute! Sheesh! What an ordeal!

Tom

Much better! The other picture made the object almost look like a wheel in a sandstone rock.

I still think it's an alien probe. :jump:

It may be just what you said it is. Very important to any ship would be maps and the captains log. Both were probably kept locked up. How close to water did you find it?

Interesting... I was leaning towards a "Tall Saucer" alien bearing marker/probe thingy. I thought that was crazy though. Thank you for confirming my suspicions....
I am crazy.

Tom

I like your attitude!

I find being "crazy" is the only thing that keeps me "sane!"

Speaking of aliens, somewhat anyway, has anyone ever searched for meteors? Talk about what the history may be on that! If you found one, you could be holding onto a rock that may have been floating around in space since, who knows?

Happy Hunting. :detecting:

Drummerman:

I saw a TV show in which some fellows had build a large MD using PVC pipe. It was perhaps 10' x 10' and was pulled by a quad through the fields of the Midwest. When a metal object was detected, a gps was used to determine the location and they continued on. After a number of target were located, they returned with either a backhoe or an excavator and dug up meteorites. They got quite a few.

That's pretty cool.

When I watch UFO Hunters on TV, they use MT's and ground penetrating radar to try and find evidence of reported crashed UFO's over the last 100 years or so. To my knowledge, they haven't yet found any conceivable evidence, mostly because all though they are given permission to search the sites, they are not allowed to dig up anything.

This is pretty cool. I like this place. I'm very busy this week though, so I'll try to check in here and there.
Happy groping! Errr, hunting, whatever.

I am also a Newbie, I bought a Quick Draw II on E-bay for $96.00. (Didn't think it was a bad deal). I usually go detecting in my back yard and on my Grandparents farm with my daughters in Southwest PA , 4 & 8, very short attention spans. I find MD to be very therapeutic. My wife thinks I'm nuts, she calls me Indy, I don't look good in a Fedora.

I have a friend that hunts with a quickdraw II he has found lots of good finds. That was a good deal. Welcome to the forum.

Hey diggindaddy

I assume that with your wife calling you "Indy" she is referring to Indiana Jones? So now with the metal detector and stuff your have to get the hat and whip.

Okay. Why are you guys yapping on MY string??/ hhhmmmmmmmmmmmMMM?? ? Don't you have something to go dig up? A dead metal body or something? Perhaps a cyborg? ('Course youneed a "high tech" machine for that. Mine couldn't find a robot, at a robot store if it was yelling at me.) He, he, he, he , he, he SLAP! (Pull yourself together man!!!

Hello. Just droping in. Going hunting today. I'm hoping to uncover an ancient space shuttle, or something... I'll let you know how that works out. By the way... Does anyone have a GPS on the exact location of gold deblooms?Just wondering... Or maybe just a hint on how to spell it? (A little help here...)

Tom
