newbie question about target sound

Coinstar

New member
I have a newbie question.
Sometimes when I sweep (in C&J mode) I get a real faint high pitched hit. When I sweep over again its a loud grunt. Does this mean that there is something deep under the trash? I try to replicate the faint beep.. but after the first pass it just grunts every pass.
I was tempted to dig it once. But, I don't want to dig a foot deep hole in the park if I can avoid it ... :D

The chances are that it is iron that has initially wrapped around on the VDI to the + side until the V gathered enough information to give you a better idea what is down there. Nothing is 100%, as you might know by now, and the only way to know for sure is to dig it. Walk around the target sweeping the coil from different directions to see if you can get the high tone to repeat, it might be a good target next to iron. Digging all questionable targets is a good way to learn what a detector is telling you. Pay attention to the VDI and audio when digging a "maybe" so when you find out what caused your V to do what it did, you will put 2+2 together next time or the time after that and knowing pretty well what the target is before digging. That process is called getting an education or simply experience...

In a well manicured park though you might want to go with solid VDI and audio targets getting your education elsewhere.

from one newbie to another, my experience is that it's big iron....dug it plenty of times to make sure, so now when that happens to me I keep on walkin. Last night i dug that same signal twice. One was a BIG rusty nut off of something to do with the railroad....and the other was a railroad spike. Hope this helps.

:detecting:

Keep in mind that there is always a chance on a deep target that it is a coin, but as the others have said, in a park you may not want to be digging massive holes. Go to a wooded site and try digging some. You will develop a "sixth sense" in time.
