Newbie looking for info on a Teknetics coincomputer ?

Hi i have just bought Teknetics coincomputer from a thrift shop and i need some help. First i would like to identify it but the side name plates have fallen off or have been removed (My guess is it has been opened for a repair and they would not stay on after that.) So i don't know if its a 9000 or what model it may be but it says coincomputer below the meter and above the control knobs. It has only 2 knobs below the meter the bottom being the power on / off and charge. The top knob controls the filer labeled GB DISC / Tone. numbered 1 thru 9 with foil, p. tab and S Caps. It has a toggle switch at the end of the hand grip. The coil is solid and round with Teknetics on it and the cable is connected to the electronics by a 5 pin Din plug. The battery pack has to doors with 6 AA batteries on one side and 8 on the other (21 vdc system). There a 1/4 inch headphone jack and what i guess to be a Battery charger port, though that did not come with the metal detector. If anybody can identify it please let me know.

If that happens, i would like to find a source for a manual or at least get some tips on use this oldie but goodie. If a picture will help i can send one or two.

thanks, pale luna

If it's red, there's an old timer in our MD club that still uses one, and makes lots of great finds with it (he says the tones are second to none).

Hi, sounds like you got a good deal if you found your detector at a thrift shop. I have a Mark 1 but there is a slight difference in it and yours so I've been told. Try your question on the Analog Detecting Forum on this site - I'm sure someone there will be able to help you. Best of luck.

Just curious what is the difference? Is it a Mark 1 or some other model? I will try the Analog Detecting Forum. for some more info.
Thanks Possum!

Hi Elton and thanks for the post! Here is a picture of the coincomputer in question. Some have said it my be a Mark I but pics i have seen a pic of a Mark I it showed more than just 2 knobs. What do you think? Any idea about the toggle on the handle what mode it switches to and from? I would like to know more about the operation of the metal detecter. If you can help let no know.

If I remember right the toggle detunes it while your hunting.

It tended to drift a little..This means it got louder in the threshold as you detected.

It looks like your Tek is a 7000. I do have several Teknetics detectors and that is one of them. I can scan the instruction book for you if you need it.

Thanks John that will make day and then some! I took it out yesterday in the yard and found two coins. i didn't dig them up though my girlfriend has the gear in her trunk with a radio shack detecter we have. The meter and the tones seems to confirm that it was a coin under there. With RS Detecter all i had was a tone to go buy but i got pretty good at telling what was a pull tab and what a quarter sounded like. Anyway Thanks for the correct ID and the offer to scan the manual. It's greatly appreciated!

Thanks again,
