Newbie gold question

Found my first beach ring! Gold-colored, only markings are inside band: ".471". Gold? Can post photo if necessary.

If it's gold I would be 11.3K Since I have found some gold this summer I'm still learning about all the terms that's on jewelry. I think I have a handle on converting percentages to Karats. But I'm still not sure how one knows things like Sterling silver, plated silver or gold etc.

If it's gold it's a very odd carat weight. I did a few quick searches of that number with gold and came up blank. Take it to a jeweler or pawn shop and have it tested. Hopw it turns out good for you. Post a pic.

Here's a photo and thanks for the input. Ring looks a little worn - a worn 'rose'? Anyway, the only markings I could find were ".417".

Thanks to everyone for the input. The consensus on this and other boards (http://forums.kinzlicoils.com/) is that I found 10K gold. It was fun to see that in the scoop! - ziphius
