Newbie coil compatibility question

The gauge and number of turns in a coil is specific to the frequency, voltage, and a few other factors. The coils are also tuned to the machine via capacitors and such. Besides, if you tried to graft a Sovereign body part onto a DFX that would be like trying to put a man's arm (Sovereign Coil) on a pig (DFX). Why would you ever want to do that?

If you want to read up on coil construction and also see guys building them theirselves at home then go check out the Geotech website. That site has tons of technical information on it as well as DIY projects for pinpointers, homemade metal detectors, and so on. I've been reading up on there with the intent of building my own coils designed specifically to do what I want for certain things. I had high hopes at one time of building a 12" DD coil for my QXT Pro, since nothing exists bigger than the 9.5" concentric other than the Hot Shot 12" concentric, and two new ones wouldn't work with my machines. From what many say that's not a problem exclusive to the QXT. I never did find anybody making a bigger DD (or even concentric) coil for the low frequency Whites machines and so gave up on that project, but I may make a coil or two for my GT as more information is available on DIY coils for the Sovereign. Pretty much what you need to figure out is gauge, number of turns, and a few other things to meet the proper resistance and a few other measurements. For a Sovereign you also either need to salvage the pre amp from a junk coil or build one yourself, which somebody has posted a schematic for on there.
