Hello, I have a Fisher 1266X that I am just learning to use. What are the best settings for beach? For parks? Thanks.

Dirt - Hello ! I have used my 1266 as my main machine for the last 13 years or so and a 1265 before that. I love it - goes deep and misses nothing. It does sound off readily on all kinds of nails so be prepared to dig them.
I set my disc #1 on 3 in most spots - 4 or 5 if it's real junky. I rarely use disc #2.
Sensitivity I set pushed in and almost all the way up.
It's not an easy machine tpo learn but very good once you get the hang of it. The older I get the more I dig also.
I have no beaches to do so just do parks and lawns, etc. I'd like to buy another 66 but cannot find one in good shape. Good luck, Steve in so az

Very deep unit that is well balanced, a lot has to do with what your looking for when seting up and of course the high sensitivity can not be used in many areas. A tough machine to learn the sounds as its very noisy, but those that learn it do very well with it....A lot of field time and digging is needed to become proficient...If its saltwater beaches your talking about is very erratic in wet salt sand..

Here is a site with a good collection of 1266X tips.Go to www.coinist.com and click on "metal detector tips" and then "Fisher tips".This is a two filter machine with a very fast response and recovery time.It is prone to iron masking more than I would like but is great around nonferrous trash. While I never cared for the dual discriminate feature this is merely a personal preference as many users do well with it.The Tesoro Tejon is a current detector which uses this system. For tips on using the dual discrimination you might ask on the Tesoro forum and do a search.Happy hunting.

Thanks to everyone for the tips. I went out and set the Disc #1 at 2 and Disc #2 at 5 and hunted a freshwater beach. Found $3.00 in change in an hour and a nice womens gold ring, but lots and lots of tabs!!! I think I am going to really like this machine. Best Wishes, DF.

Good start for you ! The more I detect the more I dig and the more I find. This year the 66 has brought me 33 solid gold items so far. Steve inso az

Wow, Steve just 32 more gold items to catch up to you! Heh, Heh, I was really surprised when I found out that the 1266X operated at 4.8 Khz! I have always heard that higher frequencies are more sensitive to gold jewelry. The 66 picked up a thin womens gold band in an area I have gone over many times before with other machines. It also picks up small chains amazingly well. One guy said on a chat room that it was probably the hottest non-visual ID detector on the market! I really like it. Best wishes, DF.

Also, I have found that it gets much closer to metal posts and such than other machines I have used. I can get almost right next to a post and still hear that "extra" sound. Steve
