OK. I have a total of about 15 minutes on the AT Pro so bear with me. Today while using the 5x8 coil in the front yard jungle I felt I was getting a lot of chatter as the coil hit tall grass and small weeds. Our lawns aren't manicured out in the forest. I raised the coil and shook the detector thinking a bad/loose connection. Nope, the detector was completely quiet. Then I lowered the sensitivity to about 50% and it brought down the chatter. Is this normal with this machine?

Go to the Garrett web site and look at the videos under the hobby section. It will show you how to set your AT pro for the conditions you are wanting to use it for. I have the AT pro and i think it is a great machine.

Yep, normal....its a hottie!...:hot:..I ran the Pro really hot today just for giggles, ...we are all learning this rig together, so post any observations or tricks you stumble across..I generally run at 50% sens...just amazing at that...so today I ran really hot (full stroke or one click down) just to see what i might be missing over the same surface I ran yesterday, and for days/weeks/months before...nope, nothing of value....so set up and run comfortable... You have to remember some of these guys have been detecting for a long time, and have learned the language of deep masked silver/gold, no matter what machine...so they can run really hot as opposed to a noob...me, being a noob, cant comfortably and effectively run hot, but I am a diligent student to their observations, methods, settings and pattern...for what I lack in skill, the Pro makes up for in its magic circuitry.....

Tall grass, wet grass, all that factors in...for starters, you get good at running what are comfortable stable settings for YOU!, to some may seem too soft, thats a matter of experience and opinion......run soft (or as conditions dictate) and hunt hard, this Pro will not miss anything of great value, silver or gold......word!.....(gosh I hate to sound like such a shill,:puke: is there anyone out there that can honestly dispute this post or add to it?)

Could also be EMI from the house. I notice this sometimes when testing a new machine around the outside of my house.

When you switched coils, did you do a factory re-set? That's required.

:)

Uhhhh...Guess I better

Along with what's already been said, you might check the ground balance, too. The AT's are very forgiving, GB-wise, but worth checking if you're getting noise as the coil gets nearer to the dirt. Like Mud said, lowering the sensitivity and getting some learning hours in working a relatively clean site (like your yard) can help reduce frustration during the early learning curve, too.
Best of luck & hope to see your treasures posted!

Thanks you folks. She really settled down after I did the factory reset.
