Yesterday while out hunting a park for the second time with my new MXT, I got an overload on a pull tab that was about an inch down. It happened 3 times to me and I was wondering what might have been going on because that didn’t seem right.
I had the machine set to the presets and the ground switch set to ground.
I also would like to hear some of your thoughts on the gain control for the MXT, because long ago I discovered that I would get better results turning the power down when hunting parks on whatever machine I happened to be using at the time.
I have another question and that is, what’s the best way to control the volume? The reason I ask is because during pin pointing the sound will blast my ear drums, but when I hit a penny at 4 inches I just barely heard it. I’m using Whites Blue Max headphones.
Also is there any advantaged to switching between modes to better ID a target? I have been playing around with that idea in my test garden. I have my wedding ring from my first marriage buried and it id’s as a nickel, but switching to prospect mode it shows iron at 10%.
I can tell all ready that I’m going to love this machine, it’s my 3rd White I’ve owned and they all have been great machines.

I am still learning my mxt, but I can share with you my experiences.
The mxt will definitely run quieter with the gain set below preset. Gain set to 4 or 5 works for me in my kind of ground.
Unfortunately, Whyte's left out two useful features from the mxt: Backlight and volume control.
The backlight I remedied with an LED flashlight.
I set the volume control on the headphones so I don't get a busted eardrum when pin pointing my digger. Then I go back and set the threshold so I can barely hear it. HH.

Thanks: I went out this afternoon and set my headphones while pin pointing and then set the threshold. I think that's gonna work out fine.
