Hello all
I am waiting for the mail man to deliver my MXT. I have read all the posts and would like to thank all the people that answered. I hope to post pics. of my found treasures soon.

Yippeee Got my MXT in the mail today. My yard now looks like a heard of gophers past through. I was carefull to cut a flap and replaced the soil but can still see where i dug. Only finds made were a lot of metal window frame cutoff pieces and the tip of a target arrow.I did have fun and learned a little about it. Tommorow I will be sore from all the getting up and down off the ground. The sweat was pouring off me so I know I will loose some weight doing this. I am having some trouble pinpointing a target. I cross checked both ways but still had to dig a large hole the size of the coil to find the target. Any tips for this? The target is pin pointed in the center of the hole in the coil correct? Well enough for now = going out and play again Andy

Hi Andy,

First, read the manual more than once.
Second, read the "MXT FAQ's" at: http://www.ighunters.net/tutorials/mxt.htm

Pinpointing is a skill that takes time to develop. If possible, your coil should be sliding on the ground while pinpointing, not pressed on the ground, just sliding. When you think you are close to centered over the target, stop moving the coil, release the "trigger" and quickly pull it again. This will reduce the volume of the sound and make it easier to find the center of the target. If the volume is still quite loud, release and re-pull the trigger again. If the sound goes away, move the coil about an inch and do the release and re-pull again. When you have the target pinpointed, it should be in the center of the coil opening. For shallow targets, a DX-1 pinpointer from Sun Ray works great.

Hi Andy, You need to get yourself a pinpointer!! They help you to locate the target in the ground. I personally recommend that you get a SunRay DX-1 Probe from Rick at R & L Detectors,he is G-R-E-A-T to deal with, and very dependable. He is also the monitor of this forum.
He has great prices on SunRay Products. They retail for $179+shipping, but you will have to get a price from Rick. Also, when purchasing from the dealers, IT IS EXTREMELY HELPFUL TO THEM, to pay with a MONEY ORDER. Credit card purchases REALLY CUT INTO THEIR PROFIT MARGIN!! The DX-1 SunRay Probe will get up to 3+inches on coin size targets in the ground. The handheld probes will cost you approx. $75-$100, will get you up to 1-in. to 1 1/2inches on coin size targets, depending on the make/model, and strength of your battery. I use to have a DX-1 Probe on my MXT, but I sold the MXT.
At present, I have (2) SunRay In-Line Probes on my Sov-GT, and my FISHER CZ-70PRO, and I would not dirt hunt without one. Also, Ronny Dugger at Dixie Metal Detectors in Brandon, Miss., also carries them, and he is also ONE OF THE BEST DEALERS TO DEAL WITH!!! Best of luck, whatever you decide, hh.

Hi Andy:

I have to second NamVetLes in his opinion "You need to get yourself a pinpointer!!"

I'm new to the MXT also, but not MDing and just got my first pinpointer and used it today. I had SO MUCH FUN!!!!!! I got out of MDing because 1) I had a basic machine that didn't work well in my soil conditions and 2) I could find targets easy enough, but I spent soooo much time digging and not finding that it wasn't fun anymore.
Today I had fun.

The pinpointer I bought (used) was not as fancy as the SunRay (I can only dream about one of those now. Maybe my first gold ring or nugget will buy me one), but it made all the difference in the world. You'll get better with pinpointing with practice, I did, but do yourself a favor, invest a little more in a pinpointer and the time spent digging will be soooo much shorter, you'll buy me and NamVetLes a drink if you ever meet us if you follow this advise early in your MDing career.

One more thing you need and I used them also for the first time today. Knee pads. This hobby causes you to go to your knees a lot. The first sharp rock in your knee might really mess your knee up. Don't chance it. I left my thrift store knee pads in the car today and the pea gravel was doing a number on my knees. After I went back to the car and put the knee pads on, I could go to my knees without thinking what was under them. I won't leave the house anymore without my pinpointer or knee pads. They make the hobby so much more enjoyable.

Andy, try this link for the OK clubs. del. http://www.losttreasure.com/clubs/clubs.cfm?State=OK

Hey Andyalso, There's an ole saying, "WORK SMARTER, NOT HARDER." Like Marcoo said, you need to invest in a few extras, a very good pinpointer and some knee pads, because you really don't know what in on that ground. Also, I'll be waiting with Marcoo for that FREE DRINK!!! HH
