Newb with MX T -How to spend those shopper dollars?

THE DETECTIVE

New member
Ok, Christmass day - new MXT in hand. Spent some time "detecting" in the living room, found some valuable change in the couch, annoyed girlfriend with beeping noise and frightened cat.

Now what to do? The ground outside is frozen like a rock and has 2 feet of snow over it...

How do I spend those "holiday shopper dollars" most wisely ($150)
I already have the headphones!

I was thinking: another coil, digging tools or a hand held pinpointing device - seems very usefull.

Thanks guys! and Merry Christmass!

The first thing I would get would be a pin pointer. I would be lost without mine. Cuts down your recovery time on targets tremendously. Next I would get a good digging tool, like the Lesche model. Best darn digging tool I have ever used. Good Luck and Happy Holidays! Mike

If I were you, I would go for the 5.3 coil& cover.
You can buy a lower rod later. And you can buy a digging tool, pin pointer, tool pouch, head phones out of pocket money.
The 5.3 coil is a must for hunting coins in trash, you can take a hand full of dirt and wave it under the coil until you get a PP.

search coil to compliment the stock 950.

Actually, the coil you select might likely become your main-use coil and the stock 950 will be relegated to 'back-up' duty for wide-opn sites like beaches or target-free grassy parks, etc.

In my personal opinion, you will not find a better White's coil than the 5.3 Eclipse! It is THE coil I would never be without, and would be in use at least 95% of the time with an MXT or M6.

Opinions might be 'free' but that doesn't mean they are not valuable.

The best option would be the 5.3 coil, and a bag. For those responding>>>the x-mas catalog is limited. It only has certain items coils, covers, maybe the bullseye pin pointer cannot remember....Does not have rechargeable batteries or lesche digger (which I now have on the way). Also add a coil cover for the standard coil and the 5.3. I know there is ten dollars in shipping so you will go 10 bucks over it will cost you around $20 total with shipping. Better than just telling you what to get here is why> I bought the DFX in November have found over 1,000 coins in a month of searching...have found silver no gold yet and the 5.3 as Monte recommended made a huge difference. But let me stress this>>>the 5.3 is fantastic at separating items from trash. The other day I hit a quarter at 5.5 inches as i dug there was trash everywhere!! But the quarter was there! So if you are going to be in parks with trash or other high trash areas don't think twice!! As far as the cover goes I have encountered wires/coat hangers also sticking from ground and know that cover saved me a scratch already! I know several people don't use bags but it is great to transport in and the padding helps protect. A pin pointer would be nice too. Good luck Gregg

Good separation/handles minerals well/ and IF you are Gold Hunting??? & have a Bigger footprint and coverage when hunting!
Does the 5.3 separate trash better than the Shooter?
Help guys and gals!

Since your a newbe you can get free tom Dankowski (nasa tom) booklet on metal detecting from fisher I believe. It's in lost treasure or west/east treasure magazines. Packed with info.HH

Here is my reasons why>>>>>1st-I contacted White's and explained how I was going to use my DFX. When I told them high trash in parks, they told me the 5.3, better all around. Second I asked Monte back in November and he also said the 5.3. My finds have gone up a ton and pinpointing a snap!!!<<<<<<<That is all I need!!! Sure the 4x6 is fine to from what I have heard. I know the 5.3 is perfect for me...Monte said once I put on the 5.3, the stock coil would go in closet....guess where it is?? Right in the closet until I hit a large area without so much trash, Gregg

I have been using the Shooter... but I just now decided to go with the 5.3"! Why not... another coil in the bag is Great!

monte. are the two 5" coils the eclipse and the excelerator about the same in performance. or does one have the edge over the other? was thinking about getting one. i have the 4.5x7 excel, 4x6 eclipse that came with my mxt plus the 9.5. thanks. hh

I have also heard good things about the 4x6, not sure it would be that much of a difference from the 5.3 if you have the 4x6 already. I was giving an opinion based on not having either and possibly picking one. People I have spoke with said either one will give you the separation, with the 5.3 getting a little better depth. I have got 6.5 inches out of the 5.3 depth wise, not sure you would need both, Gregg.
