Hello. I've been researching this hobby and with every bit of information or article I read I'm even more intrigued! I'm pretty much sold on the fact that I'm getting the ACE 250. Any ideas on the best place to purchase? I found a deal that included a lot of accessories here: http://www.kellycodetectors.com/garrett/garrett-ace250.htm $212 for most of the items I need seems like a good deal. What do you all think? Is there a better deal somewhere else?

I really enjoy the research involved in this hobby. It appears if you want to be most successful you've got to study and figure out good locations. I'm sure most people new just want to wave the detector here and there and hope to hit something. LOL. I'd like to know if there's someone from my neck of the woods I can sit down with. Maybe go over the equipment, conversations on law, locations, etc??? I'm too new to know if mentoring is a practice in this hobby as no one I know does this stuff.

Any added tips, websites, etc. I should look at, please share. I've taken a ton of notes and am about to pull the trigger on buying my equipment.

Thank you for your help!!!

hello, and welcome,First let me say you have made a great decision on detectors with the ace 250 It is a great and versitle machine I have owned and used mine for 2 yrs.In clad coins alone I have cashed over$2700. Not to mention all the silver I have kept in rings and various coins , and yes even some gold.I started out going to schools in my area, churches, and parks, and athletic fields just to name a few.Start going slow and sweep slow, mark off a small area at a time and search it through. If I can be of any help ,just ask.Happy hunting Wayne in Delaware

Hi jason. I live in ft wayne also. I got my 250 about a year ago at phils hobby shop. It came with all the accessories. I then upgraded to the 350. The 250 is an awesome detector. Another great resource is kellyco.com. they have great deals. Keep in touch if u want. I really don't have any hunting buddies here in fw. My email address is andrew9091@hotmail.com. happy hunting. Oh our library has great resources on places to hunt here. Keep in touch. Andrew

Sounds like u are startin out like I did. U won't regret it. Its such an awesome hobby and its fun. I enjoy the hobby a lot. Fort wayne is a fun place to hunt. At times though u may get someone complaining though about u hunting. I called the fw police and they told me its totally legal to hunt public places. I miss the 250 a lot. The 350 is nice but the 250 is great with coins. Another great resource is youtube. Youtube garrett ace 250 and u will see some great videos. I'm real laid back with this hobby. I haven't found to much stuff but that's not the rush for me. I just love diggin up old stuff especially relics. I think ul really enjoy this hobby.

dabbie1,

Thanks! I can't wait to get out there!

Andrew,

Most likely I'm going to order my equipment this week. I'll probably pick your brain about the equipment and hunting in the Fort Wayne area. My email address is swainstyle@gmail.com. I've been doing a lot of online research and am itching to get out there for the first time! I'm mostly available Monday through Friday during the day.

[size=large]your research should be telling you to save a lotttttt of time and work ,if you can get the Garrett Pro Pointer asap. you'll be glad you did. sooner or later you'll also want to obtain the 4" coil. i think its'[ called the sniper. it's for real trashy areas. you get with andrew and you'll both be happy.

Happy Hunting/size]

Jason......if u r lookin for a decent pro pointer harbor frieght has one for 15 buckds. I like mine a lot. For the price u can't beat it and if u take care of it it will do the job for u.
