Newb 305 question

New member
I have learned that a tid of 36 is usually a penny dime or quarter on my 305.
Question is, what type of non coin target would hit on the same 36 also?
Hit a spot today in an old field by an abandoned road where 5 items came out all hitting a 36. One is a belt buckle, 3 large rings, (not the jewelry kind) and a small spindle.
They are getting cleaned as we speak.

Thanks
Tony

There is no real definite answer. There are probably thousands of targets that could read that ID. i.e. I find pieces of copper flashing cut to various shapes & sizes. The ID of these is all over the place at the higher end of the conductive scale.

I'm very surprised that a quarter will read the same as a penny or dime. That is contrary to what I've experienced as the quarter should be a 40???? But in regard to your question, Barnacle Bill hit the nail on the head. To paraphrase......a copper penny is nothing more than a round chunk of copper, with a face and a date on it. To better understand what target properties "could be", take a look at this article I wrote, that is listed in the FAQFAQ section....

A quarter should be a 42 on my 705, but I just dug one from only 3" that read a 36 with the 10.5" DD MF Coil. So highly mineralized ground affects the TID in odd ways. Some coins come in higher for me.. and some lower than they should.
