New York Militia Button, Coolest Square nail ever, Gold plated pocket watch outer ring and more

It was another good day at the foundation that I found the 180? Large cent the other day. The star find of the day is a New York Militia button from the 1855 era. Based on Tice it is a type NY220AA1. I found that and the 1889 Indian in almost the same hole. I also found an interesting badge of some sort marked Departure. Not exactly sure what that thing is.
I love the fish hook looking thing made out of the a square nail. The other interesting find of the day was the outer ring to a pocket watch.
The temps weren't as bad today and the bugs were not as hungry for me so I was able to cover new ground and some other locations I had lightly hit the other day.
All of these finds were recovered with the 6 inch coil.

Nice button for sure. I have that one too but I only have the top half. How do you like that coil?

Hi Todd
I find it hard to say it is better than the stock coil at separation. Common sense would indicate that it is better for trashy areas but without comparing them side by side I can only say that it did well today working an area with lots of the common old homesite trash, including sheet metal, iron farm implements, and a 1929 license plate which I have to bring home next time I am there since I may be able to clean it up nicely.
What is nice is that it is a lot easier to poke into the bushes to detect the ground underneath and between trees and thick weeds. I think Digger had mentioned this benefit one time.
I believe Dr. Tones may have had access to two CTXs at once to compare signals so that post may have some good information to review.
Right now I am only using it out of necessity since my stock coil had to be replaced due to a separation problem. However the six incher may see continued use and come in handy when I detect the Poughkeepsie parks during the week at lunch time..... If it cools down enough to go out and not go back to work all sweaty.

Stay off Smith St you may lose your detector.

Very nice finds, great button, glad you like the 6" coil, it certainly has its place.

Still pulling some great finds. That's what keeps us going.

Yes, I am up here in lake george this week. Supposed to be detecting an area that seen some mid 17 hundreds war activities. Hopefully be able to make some discoveries.

What you have is a clinch nail. it is a soft nail that is driven through 2 pieces with a metal plate behind that bends the nail back on itself to give a very tight permanent joint

Interesting Ronin. Never found one before that I recall, perhaps in one piece that is.
