I quit posting about finds I make a couple of years or so ago, but on occasion I deem one worthy of mention.
As has been my habit the past several year's on New Year's Day morning, I go to one of our oldest city parks to start off the new year. I've been swinging the A T Pro a good bit of late and was swinging it this morning. Older coin recoveries from this park have been few and far between now for a good many year's, but on occasion still gives up a silver or wheats and the occasional I H cent and older nickels.
This morning my first 2 coin recoveries were wheat cents, 1918 and 1920, followed by a Memorial cent. The 1st wheat was a sweet sounding 77 reading. The 2nd wheat cent was also a 77 reading, but somewhat scratchy sounding. Both were about 5" deep. I worked the area pretty good from various directions around where I had recovered the wheat cents and finally got a nice clean sounding 87/88 reading showing 6". As soon as I flipped the dirt clod over I got a glimpse of silver at the bottom of the hole. Much to my surprise I had recovered a beautiful 1844 o Seated Liberty quarter. I've recovered Seated dimes, half dimes and a Seated half dollar, but never a Seated quarter. I ended the hunt with one more keeper, a period mini ball that was all of 8" deep.
Last year in early January the A T Pro got me my 1st Spanish Reale, a 1816 1/2 Reale. Both of these January targets are nice ways to start of a new year. HH jim tn
