Hi:
Trying to get back into metal detecting so I'm starting out slow.
I bought a Bandido ll umax but wanted something better.
I was going for the Fisher F5 but Muttandjeeps put up the X-terra 70 for sale and I grabbed it.
It came today and it's in good shape.
I read the manual a couple of times before it got here and Went out in the yard to use it.
Forgot half of what I read.
I can see its a good machine but will take awhile to get used to.
Hope I made the right choice.
I set it up for PF mode and then went into coin and ground balanced it but I was getting 42 and 44 on the screen all the time.
I have some coins buried in the yard and and I know what they are and where but I was having a problem. Lot of flashing numbers.
I want to go to the beach if I can find this spot I went to when I was a kid. Do I just set in in beach mode and auto ground balance it.
Thanks-If I go and find somrthing I will post it.

Welcome to the site, and congrats on the X-70! I would check out the FaqFaq at the top of the forum. Tons of good info to be found there. Good luck to you, Beale.

If you are getting 42, 44 constantly then you maywell have a lot of iron in the ground. I might pay to pull off the coil cover as well, just to make sure that there is no rubbish in there that can cause false signals to occur.

I sold the X-70.
Everyone said I didn't give it a chance and after reading a ton about it maybe they were right.
a nice 705 came up and I bought it.
I will give this more time.
There was a youtube video on its depth against a T2.
How come I don't get depth like that in all meatal mode?

It takes a while to get to know a detector. I've learned that I can get pretty frustrated when I'm learning a new detector. I think that most folks do. You should have seen the early E-trac posts. There sure were a lot of folks suffering from learning frustration. Now that those folks have a better understanding of the E-trac, you'd have a hard time prying it from their hands. So if you feel like tearing your hair out from time to time and the X-Terra doesn't seem to perform as you would expect, hang in there. Put it down for a bit a use another more familiar detector while you give yourself the head space and patience to learn it.
I don't know anything about the T2, but I do know that you can make most detectors look good or bad if you want to. I've seen a few silly u-tube videos that have tried to discredit some models of detectors. When you know how they perform then you can see through them. Like I said, I don't know anything about the T2, but you'll find that most good detectors will perform fairly close in performance as each other, but there are areas where some models will out perform other models, due to their features and set up.
Good luck with the 705 and be kind to yourself when you get ticked off with it again. trust me, you will, but that will reduce as you get to know it.

what your ground mineralization level is, http://www.findmall.com/read.php?55,574329,574329#msg-574329 , how you are setting up at the site (Noise Channel, Ground Phase, Threshold, Sensitivity, Volume etc) and the coil you are using and some of us might be able to help you out. If you are doing things properly, hitting a quarter at 10 -12 inches shouldn't be out of the question. JMHO HH Randy

Its taken me a while to get the hang of my 705. The more I run it the better I get or it gets or something like that. I run threshhold at 0 now. and GB at 8 or 9 sensitivity then go back back up with the sens. I have been hunting in the all metal mode lately and like it, but have only gotten out twice in the last 3 weeks (priorities) but that is due to change shortly.

hang in there and give it some time and use

Good Luck
Jeff
