Well, I flipped the switch and bought the x70 with the stock coil and the 6'dd 18.75 coil.
I am sure there will be some learning curve and I know you folks on the boards are always helpul with Q&A so here is to a successfull season!

Welcome Makton......:minelab:Minelab X-Terra-70 Is one great machine. Lot of luck and hope to see your post in the near future. TomB

Well Done. If you haven't already remember to check the FAQFAQ at the top of the first page. Good Luck. Look forward to your first picture post.

You may be surprised on how short that learning curve is. Just like xwyokid siggested read the faq faq post on the top and you will do just fine.

Welcome aboard. You have chosen a very good machine and coil combination. As the others suggest, spend some time on the FAQ thread. The experts on the forum have put a wealth of information up for us.

Good luck and keep us posted!

I'd like to join the others in welcoming you to the X-Terra forum. There is a lot of information that can be gleaned from past posts and the FAQFAQ. Don't hesitate to ask questions to the members as there are lots of knowlegeable folks who have spent many hours with the X-Terras. Nothing like first hand experience to help you over the hump! Best of luck in your hunts. HH Randy

I just received my xterra 70 yesterday as well. Had a chance to do a few air tests and was a little confused by all the different sounds. I put it in 4 tone mode and that was better.

I know it will take come getting used to. Being only 5'5" I had to cut about an inch and a half off one of the lower rods so that it wasn't as much of a strain on my arm. I am still not quite sure if I have it correct. I did watch the video and tried to go by that.

You would think that someone would come up with a better way of measuring. Something like you do when you fit someone for crutches. The top is under the arm and 2 fingers from the arm pit and bottom is about 6 inches up and 6 inches out from the top of the foot.

Why can't they say something like "a good place to start is stand up straight, straighten your arm in front of you and then lower to the ground. The back of the coil should be so many inches from your foot? Adjust as necessary." I realize that everyone is different but a place to start would be good. This is not just for the xterra but for any metal detectors.

Anyone else have any thoughts on this?

Ok so ironically after searching the web this is what I finally found in directions for an F75...
"Adjust to your height:
Hold detector, standing up, with your arm in the armrest.
Place searchcoil flat on the ground with back edge of coil 6
