New XS user questions

I've just switched from a Sovereign to an Explorer and would like to know if you veterans of the XS feel the depth indicator is accurate most of the time?
Another thing that I've noticed and would like some input on is when you swing the coil and the signal nulls but you get a good high tone in the middle of it, would you dig that tone?

My meter shows deeper than it actually is almost 90% of the time...If meter shows 4" I can count on coin being about 2 or less. I would greatly appreciate a more accurate meter as on a Garrett...but it is otherwise a terrific detector

I agree with Bill. I find the meter shows the target alot deeper than it really is. I mostly go by tone. Weaker=Deeper And also, I too would like a pinpoint/depth meter like Garrett's have. Garrett's are right on.

I think the depth indicator is an indication.I had a Garrett and I had a explorer. Now I have a DFX and with this good detector the depth is also an indication.Dig without a ruler.Pinpointing is the best sound right above the steel.

I have found that the depth scale can vary depending on the size of a target, smaller targets may sometimes appear deeper than they actualy are. Use the depth scale as a guide only. With use, you will decide yourself what will be deep and what is not
