new X-terra70

Hopefully within two weeks I will finally be the proud owner of a new X-terra 70. I have been detecting for quite a few years most lately with my MXT. My main pursuits have been and still are coins and jewelry. I'm still a little mystified by the different coils available for the 70. I hope to purchase at least one optional coil at the start. Seeing as my interest run mainly to coins and jewelry what coils would you recommend I get. We hunt mainly old homesteads where the terrain is both pretty clean to mildly heavy with prairie grass. "Most" of the time trash is at a minimum. I have very little trouble maneuvering my MXT with a 6x10 coil. I would very much appreciate your advise on types and sizes of coil I should look at getting. Can hardly wait to get my hands on the 70, have waited a long time. Thanks

Welcome xwyokid,

I'm pretty new also but I would suggest reading the FAQFAQ at the top of the forum.

A good place to start and has helped me a bunch. There is some good stuff on coils there.

Your gonna love that 70.One Sweet Machine, even makes me look good.

Best of Luck,

Ron

I should be getting a 5x10 Hf coil tomorrow myself. Thinking about selling my 9" Lf coil and picking up the 6" Hf. There's so much trash here in the Sacramento parks and schools areas.

I also hunt for old coins at old farmsites and homesteads. With my moderately mineralized soil, my coil of choice is the 9-inch concentric at 3 khz. In addition to being very sensitive to silver and copper, when hunting in the all metal mode with multiple tones, it provides a very distinct audio report on deep iron. With a bit of practice, you can leave that nasty old iron behind! When I get to an area that requires better target separation than the 9-inch coil allows, I hook up the 6-inch DD at 18.75 kHz. Although either 6-inch coil will provide excellent depth and sensitivity to small targets, I find the DD design helps me separate targets better. JMHO HH Randy

I have the 6 inch HF DD coil and it works great. Plus you can cover a wee bit more ground than the 6 inch MF concentric coil. It's not unusual to dig targets at 7 inches plus with it either. If I'm lucky some day I'll use it for prospecting....
