New X-Terra 70...

Today was the day... my new 70 arrived... nice afternoon... start home... oh no.... its getting dark... look at those clouds... drops hitting my windshield... but it clears as I get home... I get out the 70... assemble it...I get the Volume, GB, Pattern Set, Noise Cancelling good to go... Threshold set... Start to scan on my backyard... get a target, dig an old dog tag... only 22 years old... but I'd been over that area with my Bounty Hunter LandStar a few times... Pinpointing... is amazing!

Then... a small drop appears on the 70 panel... clouds :-( Oh well... the night is.... not good for detecting...

I do have a quick question if I might... I see the 70 continues to ID the target in pinpointing mode... should I see similar ID number in pp mode as detecting mode?

Paul

you sure will! But, I'll bet that it won't be long until you will not even use the pinpointing feature of this great detector. I use mine only occasionally and that is when I suspect s target larger than a coin or maybe suspect a coin on edge. The Xterra70 loves coins on edge and they will locate just as other coins do except that they will not be where you expect them to be. I have learned that when I dig a target and there is nothing in the hole I start looking for it somewhere around the edge of the hole and it is, most of the time a coin on edge. As you get more used to the x70, you will understand what I am trying to say. I think that the most important thing to remember is when you do get a good signal and can not find it directly under the coil is to NOT give up on it. If the X70 says something is there, then something is there!!!!!!!! I can also suggest that if you have detected sites with other detectors, then you MUST go back over these places with the X70 when you get familiar with it! You will be surprised what is still left in places that you thought that you had cleaned out! Good luck and post your finds no matter if you consider them not worth posting. We all love to see what others are finding!!!:clapping:

Hey Paul congrats on the 70! It is a sweet machine for sure. When you use the pinpoint feature the numbers can change if you stop the shaft from moving. The pinpoint is a motion feature. If the coil stops moving the number will change sometimes.

One other thing. i do not know if you got the screen cover with your 70. If not I would get one. It will allow for some detecting in light rain, and also keep your unit cleaner.

Good luck to you with the 70! I am sure you will like it, Beale.

Thanks for the replies and info... Beale, thx for the rain cover tip... Just ordered one off... Looks like a great item for the light rain/mity times...

I am heading back to a park that I pulled 3 1880's (2 '87's 1 '83) IH's out of last week... There was lots of old old iron at 8-10" that was giving my Bounty Hunter fits... I dug a lot of it as they were so rusted and leached out into the ground... I was gettgint the quarter / half at 8 inched everywhere :-( Its a small old park... I hope there is more there...

Way to go Paul, I recently got the X-terra 70 and love it and if I may throw in a tip, I made a rain cover for it by punching the control box stem through a sandwich bag, mount the control box, zip the bag closed and make small holes for the headphones and connector and it seems to do quite well protecting the control box and screen. I would not use it in heavy rain but it is handy. Enjoy your machine and good luck hunting.

Congrats on your new 70 Paul, If your going to an area with a lot of Iron and you have the 6" DD 18.75 I'd give the coil a try I've found some great coins that were for sure passed over one 1923 wheatie that was within an 1" of four nails and it refused to not make me dig that penny up after that I'm finding more coins in area that have been hit real hard.
