A 1943 that is. I was running different coins over the coil to see what they would register. I found a wheat penny and ran it across the coil. The numbers were jumping around but it would register a -6 most of the time. I thought something must be wrong here. It was not until I cleaned the penny off a bit I could see that it was a steel penny. I guess it really did id it right after all......;)

As much wading I do and digging all the low -/+ bouncers I still have never dug a war cent. I have even tried digging all the iron hits near 1940's coin spills with no luck. Used to have a bunch when I was a kid and into coin collecting. Had two readable 16 D merc's too and other nice stuff. Lost interest in coins in my teens and sold off the collection to buy a stereo. Wish I still had it

It would have saved some unnecessary excitement. I thought I had a copper 43 but turned out someone had copper plated this one as a magnet sticks to it. Oh well!!

Yeah I have seen those. that would be a good trick to pull on Digger. Get some off ebay cheap give em a quick plate job and seed his favorite field!
