New X-70

Old Sox

New member
Hello everyone, I have been reading this forum for a while and decided to go ahead and get an X-70 today. I have a DFX but never feel like I have it tuned right for where I am hunting. It keeps me wound up and uptight knowing that I may have it set wrong. I even felt as if I wanted to just hang it up for a while but I know that I cant. Please tell me that this one is gonna be a little easier. I actually traded a gun for this unit and it came with the high, medium and low frequency coils but no owners manual. No big deal, I can download it for free. Anyway, I was hoping that some of you could help me with anything that I might need to do before I take it out and use it. I was hoping to find some Civil War Relics as well as some coins. Is it a turn on and go detector or do I need to do anything special as far as setup for each site. Thanks for the help, I am sure gonna need it!!!!!

Read down a few posts and Ron NH pretty much sums up how easy it is for detecting with the Xterra 70 also top of page read faq posts.

Congrats on a great machine. I think you will do quite well with it. For sure check out the faq posts at the top of the forum. They really helped me. I also know that utube has some very good vids about using the X-Terra. It is the same as the cd that came with the machine.

Good luck to you I know you will like the 70. It is easy to use, but also allows you room to grow, Beale.

You can go to the Minelab web site and request a catalog. When I receive my Catalog, Minelab included the X-Terra 70 DVD. It has a lot of good info. John

John ,does Minelab charge for the manuals? I bought my machine used from a dealer, but never got the manual which I downloaded. It would be handier to have the original manual, though. Thanks, Ron

I don't know Ron. You could try calling them or you could try sending them a message through their web site. All the info is on their contact page. Click on the links below they will take you where you need to go, I hope this helps Ron.

Hey Old Sox: Your feelings about the DFX was exactly the way I felt. I tried it for a year and a half and decided it was not for me. I know there are those who do very well with the DFX. It just was not for me for the reasons you said.....Jack

Minelab charges $8.95 plus shipping for the manual. It never hurts to ask if they will send you for free, you never know.

First and foremost Minelab U.S.A. is easy to work with and may or may not give you one like the hardcopy that came with machine but indeed will send you a printed copy in the same foremat..Down and dirty DFX is a tweakers dream and X-terra 70 is user friendly so you should enjoy your new choice.Good luck and do ask questions as the forum has the answers..

I went to the website like John4840 suggested and sent them an email asking if they would send me a manual and a dvd. I recieved a reply the next morning from Sandy Burton letting me know that it would be in the mail the next day. Cant beat that for customer service!!!

One major weakness of the DFX/XLT is the inability to quickly check disc./notch settings. I'm constantly changing them, even within a particular site, and really appreciate the XTerra 70 display (or the Garrett GTA). ..Willy.
