New White's advice

So, I want to buy a new or newer White's model. I am thinking of selling one or two of my older Fisher's. I use to own a Spectrum XLT. I sold it...biggest mistake ever. What, if any, newer White's model/models comes close to the Spectrum? Maybe I should just buy an old spectrum. I see they are selling for a pretty penny. Looks like that model was a real gem.

Thanks.

What is your budget??? I would get a regular MXT..In my opinion it is one of the finest out there. Tim

I second the advise on the MXT. Used ones hold their value also. From looking at the detectors you have or had and what the XLT was designed for I am thinking the MXT would be the perfect fit. I recently got a lightly used (probably not a half dozen times at best) MXT Pro from Richard @ Backwoods Detectors very reasonable. If you were to find a used one with a 6X10 coil you would be set. If budget allows go new get the exact setup you require right off the bat.

There are some good buys on a XLT which are still very good detectors, but I have to join ranks with others that the MXT series is one of the best detectors for the money on the market.

My pick would be a DFX as the basic setup is the same plus has two frequencies and a wider selection of coils.

Agreed - go MXT. If you want dual frequency which is good for saltwater beaches, adverse EMI, and honing in on specific VDI responses, go DFX.

They were talking about the dual frequency of the DFX.

Just found a DFX Spectrum E Series brand new in the box for $910. Seems a bit high. Thinking I should pass because for a couple of hundred more I can get a VX3 or V3I. Your thoughts?

I got my firs one right after they were introduced, and I have owned quite a few of them. I sold my last personal XLT, in mint condition, last April simply because I'm a White's Dealer and some consumers would look a bit miffed if I sold them the current top-end, then grabbed my discontinued unit.

If you find a clean, decent condition XLT that works well, snap it up and enjoy the hunt. They are still excellent detectors, and like them a bit more these days because they had more of an "an analog/digital blend" than current top-end units that are so digital. Still, I wanted something to take the place of the XLT in my personal detector arsenal, and after a lot of field time I settled on the White's VX3. I had four of the Vision/Spectra V3/Spectra V3i models and they work .... but I prefer 'simple.' The VX3 is simpler to use and adjust than the V3i.

I use the VX3 as my "cruising unit" with the stock 950 coil in open areas, such as a beach, a larger open park (out in the middle where the trash content is less), and other sparse-target sites. The VX3 is my #2 White's detector, bowing to the excellent all-around performance of my MXT Pro. I keep the 6

......sold it.....

I have considered getting another now that I am just a coin hunter, but with the V3 out there it seems silly.

Or is it Monte?

By the way, how's your foot?.....Are you walking good?

Ive definitely used my XLT's an excessive amount because they were/are excellent detectors. I never wore one out as I pamper all my detectors. I have traded or sold them along the way to get thins like an XL Pro because I really like the depth and performance of that model. Sometimes to get a competitor's unit to learn what they could and couldn't do, and that resulted in me getting rid of them and acquiring another XLT, or to get a Vision, then Spectra V3. In May of last year I had my last XLT, #22, and I sold it to a friend. That was after I was White's Dealer and some people asked why I used discontinued models instead of the current line. I was only using the XLT and a modified IDX Pro to compliment my MXT Pro and M6 at the time.

There were also a few times I sold my XLT's because I pamper them and they look "show room/demo" condition, and they had my custom programs loaded. I ran across people wo couldn't find an XLT and wanted one, with my programs, and they offered me more than I could resist. (Then I'd get another XLT and load my 3 custom programs ad get back out hunting with the XLT. :detecting: )

I'm mainly a "coin hunter" as well, I just prefer to seek the older coins from older sites that are generally out of an urban setting, such as old town sites, homesteads, resorts, dance hall sits, etc. Most of the time I am using my #1 detector, the MXT Pro w/5.3 Eclipse coil. That same size 6
