New water machine?

alton

New member
When the F75/F4 were released, there was made mention of a new water machine(s) in the future (within 2 years) of Fisher.

I just bought a Excaliber and was really thinking I would have probably been better off with a CZ20 that is no longer available.

I hesitate to ask what everyone thinks a new Fisher water machine might include and clearly understand that no one could know that ahead of time. I'm not exactly asking for predictions, but what "logical conclusions" could be made from say a CZ20 to an improved one might include. I'm talking about the top of the line CZ20 replacement type of machine.

The Excaliber has been a popular choice and has a huge following. The CZ20 has even more positive comments made about it. My problem is that I have never had a CZ20 in my hands. I will be trying the Excal in 2 weeks on the beaches of Florida. To be honest the Excal technology and user friendliness seems a bit lacking to me, although the results/finds others post here are great. My opinion will hopefully be improved after my trip.

After having the F75 in my hands I'm keenly interested in a new Fisher water machine. Can anyone muse aloud about what it "might" be like?

TIA Alton

They no longer make the CZ20 if that is what you are referring to as not being broke.

I'm interested in what "Fisher" means when they say that new detectors will be introduced in the next two years including new water machines.

I wouldn't mind if they brought back the CZ20, but I doubt if that will happen. If the F75 is a sample of what might be expected but in an improved water machine, then they have my interest.

If you were referring to the Excaliber, I have no personal complaints as mine if almost brand new. In fact, I haven't had a chance to use it in the water yet. But, if I'm to understand the many reviews and post that I have read about it, then one would have to have concerns about hip mounting it, the battery and charger, etc.

Another concern is even though the Excaliber remains a great detector, it is still a 1990 design with very few improvements. Many have modified and Explorer to make it a water detector as an example.

Now, clearly that wasn't enough to keep me from buying the Excal and I felt like it was the best choice among the current detectors, but I have to wonder if someone that made a detector as good as the CZ20 (Fisher) were to release a newer one with the latest technology that it just might be an improvement over the current offerings for water detectors.

Being new to water detecting, I was wondering what the water hunting pros might be hoping for and predicting from "Fisher/First Texas". What if anything can be drawn from the comments that they will be releasing new water machines in the near future.

Again, no one can know these things precisely ahead of time and I understand that. But, what would be the logical improvements and features? What are others hoping for as it relates to the next two years of "Fisher/First Texas" water detectors? Those are my questions that probably have difficult if not impossible answers. Therefore, I'm asking more for musings than absolute answers, logical thought rather than comparison debate.

It is not a question of something being broke. It is a question of what Fisher will offer in a new water detector in the next 2 years.

If your a fresh water hunter 1280X has been around for a long time and considered by many to be the best freshwater unit ever made.
As the CZ20 has been discontinued would imagine a new saltwater unit is in the works.
Might call Fisher and perhaps they may offer more info..Perhaps I misundertood your question and would look forward to new units however they seem to be guarded secrets while in the testing stage.

A good treasure hunting buddy of mine called Fisher this week and enquired about the possibility of a new underwater unit (he loves his CZ20s but they are getting long in the tooth).
He was told in no uncertain terms that Fisher had no plans for a new underwater unit now or in the forseeable future.
I am happy with my Excal 1000 but would also be willing to add a high end PI machine to my arsenal, especially if it had some discrimination.
It may just be corporate secrecy on Fisher's part or the machine may not be coming at all.
BUMMER!

BDA:cool:

PS I asked Minelab if they had plans to upgrade the Excalibur as it has been around since 1995 and they told me that the underwater market was too small of a niche market for them to spend R&D money on it.

My first post wasn't very plain.

I intend to hunt both salt water and fresh. When I get caught up again, I may try the 1280, but the new units will probably be out by the time I can afford another detector.

Alton, the 1280 is a lot less expensive than a Excalibur and doesn't require a learning curve unless you are using a Sovereign.By the way that Chinese underwater detector that looks like a 1280 isn't even remotely close in performance. The 1280 is bullet proof and used ones are going for bargain prices. The 1280x can still be purchase as a new unit with a warranty.
