Snows gone, & it's time to scout deep into the forest looking for new 1700's sites to dig in 2008.......
Saving History New England is back....
& if our first hike is any indication on what kind of season we are gonna have.....well, stay tuned! :)
I think you'll all really enjoy seeing what we hiked right into on a hillside....we can't wait to get back there for some more serious detecting.
enjoy,
Bill

that was my reccomendation & he's already done it & said it came out great........
Olive oil would have turned it black....
and even water can react with older copper thats been entombed for so long & sometimes flake off a layer. Thats why we like to keep it dry.....
Maybe he can post a photo for us......
It is a political token related to someone running against Lincoln..........a special find

Which is really not good as many caches are found in between/ or behind those stones. Here in New England I have read about differernt guys who do scan the walls finding say 1 silver dollar, or 1 gold coin. Makes sense, as between the stones it's easy to slip in things like that (maybe hide from the wife?) ;)
I will make a point to do that very thing next time to be sure. Only takes a couple min's. We stumbled into this site on our way to the car with only an hour of exploring time left & were hurrried. There's ALOT left to do there......lots of soil to detect, you could scan walls, sift, look for the dumps, etc.....
We will be itching to get back there soon.
HH,
Bill
