Hey guys,
I've been reading the forum on and off for months and I finally pulled the trigger. I've been reading the manual and advanced guides to get caught up but I know I'll have to have it in my hands to really understand it. (Should have the V3i in a week or so).
If any of you guys (in particular UK guys - I'm in Germany) have suggestions for settings, that would be great - I'll be hunting unplowed prairy mostly, not mineralized, fair amount of iron. I ordered Gary's book on the V3i from Gary's detecting and have some other programs found here and there. I'm hoping to get 3" - 4" more in depth than my Omega got (which was 7" +-) and hopefully the V3i works as well in iron as I have heard reported. That is what I will really test. It sure seems like the V3i is the deepest VLF machine out there (and I'm not sure I want to dig anything more than 12" - 13" anyway). I've had sequentially: Nautilus IIB (yes, I learned on that), T2 and then an Omega. Because of the Nauty I am really looking forward to the Stereo mixed mode - I loved that on the Nauty. Does the AM side hit different (wider) on iron, than on other metals like on the Nauty?
Anybody have a recommended way of packing it up for travel (on a Mountain Bike!)?
It was down to the Deus, V3i and Vx3 - I ruled out the E-trac because of weight, potential masking in iron and recovery speed. Finally, I ruled out the Deus as I wanted the controls to have more of an affect on depth and such (it's a very forgiving detector settings wise). The VX3 was still there, but the cost (same price or slightly more here in Europe, once you factor in WHP and the rechargeables.)
Looking forward to eventually contributing here and get ready to see some old German coins (my target),
