new V3i coil sounds off when bumped?

All right, just got a brand new V3i today, put it together and tried it in my front yard and sometime when the coil bumps a twig or stick it sounds off. When I wiggle the connector to the coil no sound. When I wiggle the connector at the box, it will sound off, sometimes, but, not all the time.

So, does this sound like a bad coil connector at the box?

Thanks,

Joe

Could be the box connector or the coil cable connector. The way to tell which is the problem use another coil. If it goes away it is the coil cable connector. If not it is the box connector. ROB

I would give White's Service a call tomorrow and he will probably have you do several things to help narrow the problem down.

I don't have access to another coil to try, everything I have is 6.59 kHz (eagle spectrum). I put in a call to Whites and left a message, just hate to have a new machine and not be able to use it. I drove 2 hours one way to a dealer just so I would have it for the weekend.

Thanks,

Joe

That's a long drive Joe, but I would have a hard time waiting for a repair to come back. The nut is snug and there is no play or wiggle between the male and female connector, right? ROB

Rob,

Everything is snug and tight, but where the cable goes into the metal coil connector on the coil cable is able to twist a few degrees side to side. Hmmm, did that make sense? The cable is able to shift inside the coil connector.

Joe

They do that on all my connections and all my detectors even the non Whites detector. That is normal. ROB

I guess it is gonna have to go to Whites.

Thanks for the help guys.

I would first try adjusting sensitivity settings with TX Boost OFF. Lower them a few notches and see if this helps. I run my settings very hot, and "falsing" is not uncommon when bumping corn stalk stubble and the likes. Me and my buddies have a saying that "if it ain't falsing, you are missing the really deep stuff".

Found a 6x10 coil about an hour away, going to buy it and try that on the V3i. Hopefully it is just a bad coil.

Thanks,

Joe

I had a similar problem with my D2 and 6x10 coils. Using my friends coils to troubleshoot revealed both of my coils to be the culprit. Sent them back to Whites with a full explanation.
5-6 weeks later I recieved two brand new coils. Have not had that problem since.

All,

The coil is bad, got the 6x10 put on, that seems to have taken care of the problem.

Thanks for the help everyone.

Joe

Follow up on the bad coil.

Got a hold of Whites at Sweet Home and they are shipping me a new coil with a return shipping label. That is what I call service.

Joe

You will love the good D2.
