I was detecting the front yard of a house that was built in the 1940s and there it was about 5" down. A 14k yellow gold mens wedding pulltab...I mean ring. It registered on the Digimeter exactly like a pulltab but I dig everything.

I found a handfull of clad too, mostly dimes, all pretty new. The place is now a child developement center and I was in and around the parking area.

I guess I need to try and see if I can figure out who might have lost a ring. It had a small speck of paint on it so maybe it belonged to a painter...

At 5 inches it was probably lost quite some time ago. Doubt if you will find the owner.

One thing to do is to listen close to the audio. Ask yourself if there was something different about the sound.

Good find. Keep working with it.

That is great to hear you got your first gold, helps build up your confidence in the GT.
Most of the gold rings will read like a trash target, but will sound a little different than most will as you will see from experience. I find it is a little smoother sounding tone than a trash item, but not every case it will be this way.
The best one I found with my Sovereign gave a signal of a nickle, but the ID showed lower where a beaver tail off the old round pull tabs read, but yet it sounded smoother sounding than any beaver tail i have found before so I dug it. What also helped was it sounded deeper than any beaver tails should be. It was a nice late 1800 gold ring around 6-7 inches deep.
Some of the other Gold ring I have found I notice they too had a smoother tone to them than a trash item.

Good find and hope it is only the beginning of the great finds you will get with the GT.

Thanks for the tips Rick. I will remember and start trying to tell the difference. I'm going to get myself a garden planted in the next month or so.

Rick, what does (ND) stand for?

I just got back from a short hunt on a coil I am Field testing and was going over some area I was before and being it was not many pull tabs I was digging all those pull tab signal trying to get lucky. Didn't get any gold this time as it is hard to find, but got a wheatie and a 1918 S stand lib quarter around 9 inches deep that read a good 180 that the date could be read even, most are wore off, so it was a good hunt with the new coil in a worked area.

ND stands for North Dakota as this is where I live in a small town of Chaffee ND with about 40 people here, My wife and myself own and operate the bar and cafe in town.
