New type of area to hunt.

Well new to me and hopefully to you too. I discovered an area where unneeded 'clean fill' is dumped by Township trucks. Ripped up sidewalks mixed with dirt and other town projects rejected dirt all in piles waiting to be searched. First time I found this I got two wheats. Maybe this is stupid- I dont know. HH. Matt

Thats a great spot! Anywhere you can find old dirt, like under the sidewalks is a good location. Good Job on heads up ball!

That is a dream hunt....if you need any help detecting it, give me a call :detecting::biggrin:

Hit those dirt piles as much as possible.

Good luck and keep us posted!

Matt ... you are spot on ! There are a lot of good finds in those piles. I have three of those places that I hunt regularly, and I always come up with something on each visit.

The three most productive targets areas I have ever heard of are: 1) old - and I mean really old - dump sites. You usually have to SIFT, not detect, because of the amount of iron trash, but a fellow local club member who does this almost always finds something of value - old coins (gold ones, too), or Victorian jewelry... 2) beaches, after a strong surf action - storms....and 3) privvy digging. Sounds disgusting, but another fellow club member has unearthed remarkable finds sifting though old outhouse sites - bear in mind that these are many, many years old and no longer are damp...in fact look like plain soil....I am aware of at least four gold coins and a trove of very desirable collectible bottles he has recovered, along with guns, jewelry, and even an old Lionel train engine!

Yesterday I found a second dirt dump site just down the street from me. This site is much bigger than the first. Contains a real mix of dump mixtures. One of the most productive was grass sod torn up in clumps with lots of dirt still attached. I found quite a bit of clad here. While I was at this site a Pennsylvania Power and Light dumptruck dumped its load of fill. Im going bag today with a smaller coil to reach the places my 13" couldnt. HH. Matt

Went back today with my Minelab Sovereign GT with a Sun-Ray S-5 coil. This place is endless because the trucks keep dumping fill. Lots of broken colored glass from bottles is always a good sign. Today I found a lot of clad and a sterling silver religous piece of jewelry. HH. Matt

Got a 1917 Merc from a pile today. Used the DFX with a SEF 6x8 coil. Great area because I can bring the dog and let her run loose. HH. Matt

You found nice "pay dirt" Nice finds!
