New trick, by accident!

I was doing a dig with my V3i and finding plenty of 45/70 shells, like I usually do in this spot. When I stumbled across a trick I never knew about. The last time I used my V3i, I was using my 4X6" shooter coil and forgot to switch it back to the standard 10" stock coil in the expert menu. So I'm using the stock 10" coil but the programing is set at 4X6". Now I was also using the magic program most of us have already heard about. So I don't know why it was working so awesome, but I'm gonna use this again. Thought I'd pass that trick on to others. When I went back to the stock 10" setting in the menu, I lost some of the depth I had, when the machine was set for the 4X6". Hope that makes sense. But with one target I tested, it couldn't hear it with the V3i set on 10", but when I switched the settings back to 4X6" it rang out loud and clear. So I kept going and found 2 great mini balls. By the way; the depth was off. It would say 1" when I pinpointed the target with the V3i, and it was actually about 4-5" usually. Go get you some!

All that should have happened was the depth readings should be incorrect. It looks like that is all that was happening from your explanation.

Sounds like he was saying he actually got better in ground depth with it set on 4x6.

OK, then others should try it if they want.

Use what works for you but according to White's, the coil selection menu only makes the depth readings more accurate for the coil that you are using.

I have to confess I do this often by accident. Only real difference it makes is depth readings and the only time you can trust these are when you are sure it is a coin and sure it is flat, otherwise no big deal.
