Hello everyone I have used and learned most brands of metal detectors and never ever used a Tesoro so I finally picked up a Cortes and was wondering if it is a good coin and relic detector and also how you Tesoro folks are running yours.I Hunt woods, fields and old homes ect and here in Maine there is a lot of iron naturally in the soil
Thank you, sasquache

I can't say how the Cortes does but I did have the DeLeon which is very similar to the Cortes. For me in my soil it was a very good coin finder. I was able to find dimes down to 7" with it and it found an old axe head that was over a foot deep. Most of the time I ran mine with the sensitivity as high as it would go typically 9 or 10 range with the threshold maxed out. I really liked the machine and only traded it because I wanted something with multiple tones and the ability to notch. Hope this helps.

My DeLeon was a silver magnet. Usually a 95 with the coin segment pegged meant coin every time. You also get the broken tone to ID junk like many Tesoro's. I would think the GB on the Cortez would aid in a little depth and ID of the DeLeon.

Sadly the GB on the Cortes only applies when running in all metal mode. When disc'ing its a fixed GB.

Despite that, I think it's a great coin machine. I only have about 2 months experience with it but I'm loving it for the local parks.

hey squash from MDM. just have to try it out and see. with manual GB in all metal only, probably wont get real good depth in disc mode. dont know why tesoro would do that on their highest priced unit. like making a nice sports car then putting an under powered engine in it. thats what turned me off cortes.
