I have been detecting for about eight months now and have tried quite a few kinds of detectors. I just bought a used eagle 2 sl about two weeks ago. What a great machine. I'm finding twice as many keepers. Have to re hunt some spots. Any experts on this machine out there? Would love to here if there are any tips or tricks with this machine. I'm looking foreword to posting some pictures soon.

Kurt,

I have had my Eagle II sl since 1989. By no way am I an expert on it. Did you get a manuel with it? If not you can down load it from White's site.

1. Turn on detector. wait for air prompt. ( don't hit it yet )

2. Use Audio Mode to select Starting programs A- coin & jewelery B- Prospecting & Relic, C- Beach

3. Use Air Mode (now)

4. Use Ground Prompt (now)

5. Use Audio Mode to chose different audio thresholds A- continuous tone, B- silent tone, C- tone ID

The biggest hint I can give you is to keep the coil moving don't go slow. After you get a good solid tone by moving the coil back and forth use the switch on the handle to pin point target. Watch the depth meter. When the depth meter is at the swallow-est depth the target is right in the center of the coil. ( BIG HINT ) Now release switch and bounce the coil up and down off the ground if you still get a solid tone the target is good ( coins, rings, Jewelery ) if the target breaks up then it is bad ( pop rings, foil, chopped up tin cans ). The only thing that will fool you is screw caps.

After choosing your audio tone. Crank up the Sens up until the detector gets unstable then back it down one number. Here in Kansas I can run my full open. I can detect 1/4" piece of baling wire @ 8" in the Relic mode.

Is your eagle ii sl a 1990 or earlier The 90 has a different chip than the 89. After you have a manual program it In u1 or u2 for your disc ,iron rej,all other settings you like. Also if it's a 90 turn on two quadrant vdi (with this on iron will be id by the word LOW on the display).
