I played with me dad's metal detector in the 70's, but never got serious with it. Now I'm 41yrs old, and want to buy a good metal detector. I've got $300 to buy one. I'm in favor of the Quick Draw II or the Sharp Shooter II. Which one is a better buy? Thanks in advance, Joe

I think most people here would say buy a new Garrett Ace 250 and or a used Garrett 1350 or 1500. Just my opinion. To be honest, I'm not familiar with the detectors you have mentioned but there are loads of great reviews on the mentioned Garrett machines and these guys can tell you more about what you might need.

Go with the ACE250, that's what I'm about to do. You can get it from Kellyco for $199 and they include some accessories with it for that price. Also check the ace250 forum on Yahoo. There are a lot of friendly, helpful people there, all using that MD. Lots of good information on it. Sorry, I don't have the links to give you right now.

If you have $300 to spend, you should buy a Ace 250 for $200 then spend that extra hundred on a good finds pouch (it'll need to be large since you're using the 250), a good pinpointer and a couple of digging tools. If you're dead set on Bounty Hunter detectors, I'd absolutely go with the Quick Draw over the Sharp Shooter!

Hope this helps!

Wow...Alot of good info., Thanks alot-Appreciated. So much for the Quick Draw & Sharp Shooter!
I have one more question, Should i go for the (Garrett) new-Ace 250 for $249.00, or used (floor model) GTAx 400 for $318.00? A dealer north KCMO. is selling one. reg. priced-$399. Thanks again in advance!

Get the 250!! YOu will be disappointed with the 400. And check with one of the online dealers listed on this webpage. You can get the 250 for $199, sometimes with extras. And with the $50 you save, you can buy a couple of gallons of gas to get you to a good hunting spot!! :)

Like I stated above, if you get the 250 from Kellyco, you will get extras, including a digging kit. What I forgot to mention is that you should use the remainder of your available funds for a good pair of headphones. There are quite a few available in a wide price range. You will have to check some out and pick the one you like.

Get the 250. Technology is light years ahead of the old 400. You can pick up a 250 for $199 from many online dealers and Kellyco.
