This a new hobby for me and I was hoping for some advice on which metal detector to buy? For beach and under water mostly, sometimes moutains. Moderate price range upwards to 1000.00. Best for the money? How about biulding your own, componets easy to get and instructions?

There are a number of good detectors that should work for you in that price range. You'll need to be a little more specific to get recommendations though. Are you looking for something for freahwater beaches or saltwater beaches? This makes a big difference. Under water covers a lot. Are you looking for something you can scuba dive with, wade with, or submurge to maybe 10 feet? Mountains? Are you looking for something to detect with among the pine trees in the dry dirt?
As far as building your own, If you have a budget of $1000, you won't be able to build anything that would be anywhere as good as you can buy for that. A person trying to build a one off detector without the tools to build micro computers, PCB's, and winding coils would be at a great disadvantage to the detector factories. Not to mention your home made detector would probably weigh a great deal more than a factory manufactured machine. Not good when you have to swing the thing for hours.

minelab excalibur 2 that is ur machine u can get a slightly used for a 1000$
