Hello all, new to this and just received my new infinium, and any help to get started would be great, have read the forum several times and I'm itching to find some thing.
I'm in newcastle nsw Australia

Hey Goldbuzz - SSSHHHH or you'll wake this forum up! :0) You're the first visitor here in a while! Good to have a new Finny man out there. Your from the land of mineralization. Good choice on the Finny. No magic or PHD required to use this fine machine. I'm in Arizona right now and have had a great time with my Finny. Using the 8 inch mono and loving it. The 10x14 stock coil has no big advantage over the 8 mono and much easier to swing all day. I hunt in the slow track mode mostly and I break the rules when booting up my machine. The Finny has all the brains to handle the boot-up and I no longer do the coil pump up and down when booting - up. I simply set the coil on the ground, turn it to slow track, let the machine test the ground till it gets quiet, switch to lock and then start to hunt. If/when I get any falsing I simply slow down the swing and let the machine have more time to test the ground. I found the swing speed to be directly related to false signals. Probably the same for the 10x14 but I haven't used that coil much at all. The 10x14 will get better depth but not a lot and the 8 mono will find smaller bits at shallower depth. The 10x14 has a blade like signal that is narrow and long where the 8 mono has a cone shape signal. Obviously the cone shape has a smaller area at depth so requires some overlap when swinging if you're thinking about the deep targets and, obviously, the 10x14, with the longer blade like signal, covers more area at depth but the depth difference between the two is not huge, you just get better coverage with the large coil. With the 8 mono I run the Threshold volume about 8 and adjust the headphone volume to comfort. This gives me a bit of advantage for boosting deep signals. My rule is to keep it "low and slow" and let the brains of the machine do it's thing. Auto ground track is a great feature with the Finny so you have to find the "sweet spot" with the swing speed so the machine can sort things out. It is always thinking so you have to give it time to do it's thing. If you have any questions/problems just post them here - you'll find lots of help. Good luck and welcome aboard!

thanks for the info, cant wait to get hunting, will be heading to the beach soon ! have read a couple of posts on external speakers, any idea on that ???

Goldbuzz - external speakers are really attractive for many reasons. Here in Arizona I am always stopping to untangle the headphone wire from thorny limbs. I would love to have a wireless headphone set-up or an option of external speaker but I don't have the electrical knowledge to make the modification. Also, when the temps get warm it would be nice to shed the headphones. Some day I will take the time to research the process. A search on this site will turn up many post about the process. It may not be as complicated as I make it out to be. It's just the time required to make the mod that keeps me in headphones.

Since my last post I have had two outings, first was a great avo with 5 Australian pennies and two ring pulls and a massive nail
Coil was a 8" mono

second was a massive noise field of hot rocks, iron stone, where some old train tracks were, the days finds included 60 cents, a nail and an old bundaberg rum bottle cap.
Coil was also a 8 " mono, was told to have a go of the std 10x14 DD coil in iron stone areas.

10x5"DD or 7x3"DD would be my coil choice for your described area.

I would agree with ivanll - those small DD coils would be best for trashy areas. I have never used one on my Finny but know my 5x8DD for my AT Gold is a nit picker in trashy ground. That "blade like" signal from the DD small coil is easier to pinpoint with also.
